Gamescom took place at the Koelnmesse in Cologne last month and set new records for boots on the ground. More than 320,000 people were in attendance at the event when you factor in both the press and the general public, which was a 21% increase compared to 2022. Yes, it was sweaty. No, we don’t want to talk about it.


This year’s show had something for almost everyone, with hands-on gameplay opportunities with upcoming AAA games like Mortal Kombat 1, Lords of the Fallen and Sonic Superstars, and chances to try out indie darlings that are going to rock our worlds when they come out (we’re looking at you, Helskate, Thank Goodness You’re Here! and Billie Bust Up), as well as all of the cosplay, conferencing and networking between professionals that visitors could handle.


There were even (if the NDA-breaking whispers on the wind are to be believed) behind closed doors looks for developers at what the next-gen Nintendo console on the horizon might look like. We’re equal parts intrigued and upset that we weren’t invited, but we’re sure that Nintendo knows our money is pretty much already spent on that console anyway.
