PAYLOAD STUDIOS is an award-winning, independent game developer based in London. Founded in 2013 by Russell Clarke and Vincent Scheurer, the studio’s award-winning debut title, TerraTech, was self-funded, self-published and embodies the studio’s community-centric approach. The studio currently boasts a team of 40+ passionate developers who continue to work on TerraTech, as well as an unannounced new title. The studio is now recruiting to bring even more world class talent to its team. Besides TerraTech, Payload Studios is perhaps best known for founding the Tentacle Zone Expo Stand, an affordable shared space for game developers at major UK events that has helped showcase more than 200 games! The Tentacle Zone then evolved into a co-working space where Payload employees and other developer residents share knowledge through weekly industry talks and social events. In 2021, Payload Studios launched the award-winning Tentacle Zone Incubator for early stage founders from underrepresented groups. So far 24 developers globally have completed the programme, receiving mentorship and training. A 2021 minority stake investment from Tencent has provided Payload with the capital to grow, while preserving its autonomy.
