Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters

Barely a month goes by without a new Warhammer game releasing, but it may interest you to know that it’s been 24 years since one included Chaos Gate in its title. 1998’s release was a turn-based tactical affair that ended up being favourably compared to X-COM by a young Richie Shoemaker. 2022’s release has long been compared to the more recent XCOM (no hyphen) games, and the comparison promises to be even more complimentary. Thankfully we don’t have to endure a more senior Richie Shoemaker to make it.

MAY 5th Trek to Yomi

Having recently released a third in its rebooted Shadow Warrior series, you’d think Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital would have had enough of over-the-top Japanese-flavoured combat games. Thankfully Trek to Yomi is a little more contemplative than its frenetic stablemate, being inspired by classic Akira Kurosawa movies than by more modern Demon Slayer ones. The game, a side-scrolling combat game, features its fair share of mythical creatures, but its subdued black & white palette and considered combat combine to create an aesthetic that harks back to classic video games as much as cinema.

After two years of being confined to country, EVE Online fans are at last free to join the annual pilgrimage to the Icelandic capital Reykjacik, the hearth and home of CCP Games. With the game closing in on its 20th anniversary, two days of looking back at how far the game and its community has come, and of course, a peek ahead at what’s on the horizon, will naturally dominate proceedings. Will there be any news of the EVE-themed first-person shooter that’s long been mooted? Perhaps. Not that those in attendance will care. Just being around their fellow capsuleers this year will likely be enough to ensure a happy crowd.
