BLOXD IN F
Tori Till spoke to Bloxd CEO and Founder, Arthur Baker
or the uninitiated, please describe Bloxd. Bloxd is a multiplayer game platform focused on editable voxel worlds. We have a wide range
of games players can play for free on web; some are formats you might recognise like “Bedwars” and “Murder Mystery”. Others are entirely fresh game loops: in “Pirates” you crew a ship and explode opponent ships; in “Greenville” you build houses and take on jobs in a social town. If you load up
bloxd.io in your browser, you’ll see our first-party games up top. The other side of Bloxd is we’re building a game-
engine for multiplayer voxel worlds. We want it to be easy for anyone to make these games. We fundamentally believe an enormous amount of awesome gameplay can be created with editable worlds, and that existing voxel games have barely scratched the surface. Building voxel worlds for a multiplayer game typically takes 100,000 lines of code; with Bloxd creators get a voxel world in 5 lines of code. That combination - a large existing
audience, a growing catalogue of games and increasingly powerful creation tools - is what makes Bloxd interesting as a platform, not just a game.

How did it come into being? I was a student at university, and I’d made a couple web games before, with some success, but nothing crazy. I’d done some internships and decided I wanted to do something different. I saw a gap in the market for something like Bloxd. So I took the plunge and went full time on Bloxd when I graduated. Fortunately it worked out! One of my early games as a student got 50k plays - now Bloxd has 15 million unique players a month. The success of Bloxd means we’ve been able to bootstrap without outside investment, and we’re now a team of 11 full- time in London.
