GLITCH

A new TikTok-like gaming platform launched in May, with nearly 100 games and 10,000 users on the waitlist. Founder and CEO, Devin Dixon, gives MCV the low down

T

he discoverability problem is at an all-time high in games, which was evident in Steam’s last Next Fest, which had a record 4,553 games. Let’s put this into perspective and look at how

likely your game is to benefit from Next Fest, and what you need to do to actually get wishlists. The homepage features 50 games, so that is a 1.09% chance of

making it to the homepage for maximum exposure. On the Steam genre page, each genre has 27 games in the carousel, which is a 0.59% chance of being featured. That is less than Y Combinator’s chance of getting in. And developers are feeling it, with many taking to Reddit to discuss

how this Next Fest basically got them little to no wishlists, or wishlists that converted. The discoverability issue for games is at an all-time high, and this is where Glitch thrives. Glitch is a distribution platform like Steam or the App Store, with

one key focus in mind: providing the tools needed for games to be discovered. The platform does this by providing marketing tools to developers, deep attribution to help developers understand what is working, and algorithms that reward developers for marketing.

MARKETING FOR GAMES Influencers: Glitch provides access to influencers who can come play games. One of the hardest things developers struggle with is getting others to create content around their game, which is a key unlock to how many games succeed. The most unique thing about influencers on Glitch is how they can get

paid through installs and actual game sales. Because Glitch is both the distribution and marketing platform, tracking installs and sales makes performance-based payouts possible and de-risks the prospect of having to pay big-name streamers upfront. Discovery Queue and Social Media = Ads: Social media often feels like

screaming into the void. Glitch’s built-in social media tools not only assist in planning, writing, and posting content, but the discovery queue also tracks engagement on social media and ads, then rewards the developer.

IMMEDIATE DISCOUNT FOR PLAYERS With so many games coming out, players often wait to buy games at a discount, which is why sales events and discount game sites do so well. But instead of waiting for an event, Glitch offers the user a sale upfront. Players can rent the game for as low as $0.99 for up to 10 hours of

gameplay. And if this is a game they really want, they can buy it at full price. This allows players to play a lot of games for really cheap and only commit to the ones they actually want.
