Suzanne Callander looks at whether demand for organic bakery products remains high in the current economic environment.
akery products labelled as being ‘organic’ should be made only using ingredients that are certified as being organic. To meet the requirements of organic certification, bakery manufacturers also need to produce their organic products following strict guidelines set by the food safety organisations of their respective countries.
Because of the need to follow such stringent guidelines
when it comes organic products, Kennedy’s Bakery Production was keen to find out if the demand for organic

ingredients in the bakery sector remains as high today as it has in the past, in light of the fact that the trend towards plant-based and vegan seems to have been dominating headlines in recent times.
The difference between organic and non-organic ingredients relates to how they are produced – Organic foods and crops must have been produced without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilisers – just because an ingredient is plant-based does not make it organic! Has the latest trend for plant-based, dimmed the call for organic?
