THE ERT INTERVIEW ERT AWARDS WINNER: MEENA TOOR

18

A Trophy life

fter her name was announced at the

ERT Awards back in October, a nervous Meena Toor made her way to the stage to pick up her award for Sales Representative of the Year. “I was so shocked to win,” she tells ERT. “It

was great to be in the presence of everybody from the industry, because it’s so incredibly valuable to be there. It was an honour, it really was. And as soon as my name was read out my colleagues all jumped to their feet! It was quite overwhelming but I’m just so grateful to be recognised.”

Meena Toor from Humax won the Sales Representative Award at the ERT Awards in October and the cheering and applauding in the room was testament to her dedication to the indie retail trade across the UK. Here, she tells Jack Cheeseman what winning means to her and why independents make the best sales people.

Ms Toor adds that it was an amazing feeling taking the trophy home with her, after parading it around the Humax office of course!

“I took it straight home and it now sits in my

living room! I polish it every week,” she laughs. “I’m very proud and my daughters were pretty impressed too. “It’s so great that we have the ERT Awards because it is such brilliant recognition for everyone, especially the winners obviously!” Before starting at Humax, Ms Toor worked as

an Account Manager for a distribution channel supplying raw materials. She has since been at Humax for 11 years and is the only Sales Rep for independent electrical retailers across the UK.

She first started working at the Korean set top box manufacturer as a Telesales Executive – her role was to introduce the Humax company to independent retailers using just the Internet, a rep’s contact booklet and her telephone. From there the sales team grew and she became a Telesales Supervisor before moving into her current role as Area Sales Manager three years ago. “This gave me the opportunity to go out and

speak with people face-to-face, and I think most people prefer

to do business that way,” she

comments. “I’ve learned lots over the years and built-up the confidence to actually go out and liaise with everyone, talk about products and help drive the business forward.”
