JOINT WINNING MULTIPLE
Richer Sounds, Mansfield Road
This store is located at the junction of Mansfield Road and Fulforth Street. I was looking to improve the sound coming from my TV; inside the store I was welcomed by Ian from behind the counter. He asked if I needed any help and I explained that I was disappointed by the quality of the sound coming from my reasonably new TV.
He immediately recommended a Denon sound bar
(DHT-S416), which was priced at £249. Ian then demonstrated the sound bar using 4K video content that was showing on the connected Samsung TV. Ian said the sound bar would provide a huge upgrade to movies, gaming and TV sound. He added that it is also a handy music streamer and features built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Google Chromecast. He said that the sound bar is fitted with two-way, stereo speakers and a punchy amplifier. Ian said it’s also supplied with a separate wireless subwoofer that features a bass reflex port. And that, thanks to the ARC (Audio Return Channel), I’d only need a single HDMI cable between sound bar and TV.
JOINT WINNING MULTIPLE
Lakeland, Wheeler Gate
This store, located just off the Old Market Square, is between Costa Coffee and Amplifon. Due to the rising cost of energy, I was keen to buy an air fryer. Inside the store, Jackie was just finishing helping another customer with an air fryer question. She asked if she could help me and she presented the Instant Vortex Plus Dual Drawer Air Fryer with ClearCook, which was priced at £219.99. She said that it comes with two 3.8-litre baskets for separate or synchronised cooking, easy-to-use touchscreen controls and eight cooking functions. Jackie said that using 95 per cent less oil than
deep fat frying, EvenCrisp air flow technology makes sure food is crispy and tender, making it a much healthier way of frying. Jackie finished her presentation by mentioning
that the product comes with Lakeland’s three-year guarantee.
Nottingham Hi-Fi Centre,
Alfreton Road
This store is located on a busy A-road which runs from Nottingham city centre. I was looking to buy a turntable, following a resurgence of the format. Inside the store, which was being refurbished, Martyn greeted me and asked if I needed any help. He asked questions about my existing system, before agreeing with me that it would not be fit for purpose. Martyn said that I would need to buy an amplifier, speakers and the turntable. He started his presentation by showing me the Quad Artera Solus Play, priced at £1,799. Martyn said the model includes an amplifier, CD player, and offers streaming, including internet radio. He said the all-in-one system supports Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz and has both analogue and digital inputs. Next, he showed me the Audiovector (QR1), which was priced at £1,149. He said the QR1 speaker carries many of the technologies found in the higher ranges which have been filtered down. Martyn then presented a turntable from Audio
Technica (ATLP140XP), which was priced at £400. He encouraged me to return to the store with some vinyl to have a demonstration, the following week once the refurbishment work was completed.
