ANALYSIS: COUNTER-TOP COOKING Home Appliances

Size doesn’t matter! 26

People are switching on their ovens much less often nowadays. Instead, they are opting for smaller, cleverer and cheaper-to-run counter- top gadgets to cook and prepare the same meals… and there’s quite a variety of appliances to choose from. ERT takes a look.

T he effects of the cost-of-living

crisis are being felt everywhere and by everyone, and in the kitchen consumers are now making more considered decisions when it comes to cooking meals and choosing what appliances to turn on. People are looking for gadgets that will help them save as much energy as possible. Small home appliances such as air fryers, mini ovens and microwaves use much less power than conventional ovens or

larger appliances. And

not only this, but air fryers can often also offer a healthier choice when compared to other ways of cooking food.

Beko says its countertop appliances are purposefully designed to make everyday life simpler, and its range of brand new AirFryers deliver a healthy, energy-efficient cooking solution. For larger families, the ExpertFry Dual Zone

Hot Air Fryer features two cooking zones with a combined capacity of 8.5 litres. The Smart Finish feature coordinates the cooking times of different foods to ensure meals are ready at the same time, while the Dual Zone programme uses each compartment independently.

In addition to this, Beko is also adding a smaller model; boasting a 4.7-litre capacity and 1,500W of power, the ExpertFry Hot Air Fryer offers a quick and healthy way to cook food with little to no oil.

With eight automatic cooking programmes and a digital touch display, this flexible model allows users to select the perfect cooking function for their food at the touch of a button.

Elsewhere, only last month Statesman unveiled a new range of products – a five-litre air fryer and an 11- and 15-litre air fryer oven (below) – something to suit all types and sizes of household. These will quickly circulate hot air around the cavity for quicker cooking times and there are also various automatic cooking functions, including pre-heat, dehydrate, bake, grill, roast and more, meaning just one appliance can fulfil a multitude of different kitchen functions.

Healthier than traditional frying, air frying requires as little as one tablespoon of oil, while the viewing window allows users to check on the cooking progress without having to open the drawer and allow precious heat to escape. Not the only one to see a huge rise in air fryer sales, RKW has invested heavily in marketing campaigns to show consumers that air fryers are not just about cooking chips… James Barton, Tower SDA Category Director, comments: “We are now seeing consumers trade up to larger capacity air fryers with more functionality.
