ANALYSIS: KITCHEN DESIGN Home Appliances

March 2022 ertonline.co.uk

Smeg is well known for its desirable designs and eye-catching colours, but by the admission of Smeg UK’s Head of Marketing, John Davies, the brand has two design languages… “Of course there’s the bold 50s style aesthetic, and there’s the

sleek, more corporate look with the brand often embossed into steel or etched into glass,” says Mr Davies. “Think retro fridge versus Opera Range Cooker and Classic oven! “Both themes are crucial to Smeg from a visual identity point of

view; whilst the colour and curves of Smeg’s 50s style is iconic, the paired back minimal look of our contemporary ranges contrast nicely in a more modern space.” For example, introduced last Summer, the Symphony range

cookers offer a completely new aesthetic suited to both modern, contemporary kitchens as well traditional and shaker-style spaces. Symphony’s design includes details such as cast iron pan supports, eclipse black glass doors and new full-length handles and towel rails. Mr Davies adds: “Materials, dials and textures play a critical role

Over at Haier, Product Manager Milo Cheney reports that dark colours are popular at the moment – such as charcoal grey, matte black and steel. Fridge freezers like the FD70 Series 7 and I-Pro Series 5 are great examples of premium appliances that also offer further developments in Artificial Intelligence. On that note, Mr Cheney believes that while looks are important,

functionality adds to the consumer’s joy in using their kitchen appliances. Connected features help users day-to-day and tend to sit in kitchens that are futuristic and premium. When it comes to cooling, with products such as the FD70 Series

7, the Visual MyZone function provides you with the optimum conditions for the item you want to store inside the MyZone drawer, setting the right temperature according to your shopping habits. “Products such as the Wine Bank 50 Series 7 and its partnership

with Vivino allow you to enjoy the WINE LENS function that gives you all the information about your favourite wine just by scanning the label,” Mr Cheney explains. “You can see the winery it came from, the type of grapes used, the year of production and more! “And of course, we have Haier’s new built-in connected cooking

range, which was unveiled for the first time at the KBB Show, showcasing the amazing tech features across the new range of connected ovens, hobs and hoods.”

Bertazzoni kitchen appliances are handmade in the ‘gastronomic capital’ of Northern Italy and the brand offers four product collections. The Professional Series has sleek and modern finishes with distinctive style features including elegant knobs and handles. The Heritage Series is more of a ‘classic’ aesthetic combining old and new, inspired by the

original Bertazzoni stoves dating back to the beginning of the 20th Century, such as range cookers with a modern induction cooktop. The Master Series brings commercial kitchen-inspired style, while the Modern Series is

characterised by its fresh, contemporary elegance. “We believe cooking is an experience that should be enjoyed,” says Maurizio Severgnini,

Managing Director of Bertazzoni UK and Ireland, “and every appliance we manufacture helps to guarantee this, from the exterior look and feel to intricate internal features. “The latest Master Series model [left] now features full metal controls and new satin finish

handles, whilst the Professional Series welcomes a 60cm model with new controls and handle finishes, and a Carbonio option. Additionally, new styling with door trims and an additional towel rail and enhanced controls can be found on the new Heritage Series model. “This year marks the 140th anniversary of Bertazzoni and we have exciting things

planned, not least the launch of our cooling columns that offer multiple configurations, state-of-the-art preservation technology and stylish Italian design.”

in Smeg’s appeal and design style. And across the 50s style range colour is always crucial, albeit consumers may opt to play safe with cream, red or black. “Matte finishes continue to be popular as well, with slate grey still

an interesting finish – one still very much in demand. “Renowned for its soft rounded curves and striking colours, in

many ways the iconic retro FAB refrigerator range has become an iconic symbol around the world. From small FAB5 minibars through to large FAB50 fridge freezers, there’s a model for everyone.”
