Currys names ex-Nordics boss, Frederik Tonnesen as Group CEO
Currys has named Fredrik Tonnesen, the boss of its Nordics operation as Group CEO. He will take over from Alex Baldock, and will take up the role in August. According to reports, Mr Tonnesen joined Currys 20 years ago as a shop assistant, and has led a turnaround of the Nordics Currys business, which represents around 40 per cent of the Group’s business overall.
Like-for-like, year-on-year sales in the region peaked at 12 per cent, as stated in its Full Year report for 25/26 in May, with the strong growth linked to “very strong performance in kitchens and new categories such as computing components”. Ian Dyson, chairman of Currys, said: “I am delighted to welcome Fredrik as our next group chief executive. “He has huge experience inside the business and has led an extremely impressive operating performance improvement over the last three years. “He understands our customers, our colleagues
and our culture from the inside, and brings the right combination of clarity, energy and leadership to take Currys forward, building on the strong foundations that Alex and the team have put in place.” Mr Tonnesen said: “I’m incredibly proud to be leading Currys, a company that I joined 20 years ago on the shop floor and know extremely well. “This is a great business comprising thousands of capable and committed colleagues, and it is hugely exciting to take on its leadership at a time of such strong momentum.”
7 Diego Perrone joins Electrolux Group as Chief Strategy Officer
Diego Perrone has joined Electrolux Group as Chief Strategy Officer, taking up the role from July 8 2026. Mr Perrone, who was most recently leading Haier’s
UK and Ireland business as Managing Director, succeeds Vincent Rotger, who has moved to head Electrolux Group’s Product Line Wellbeing & Small Domestic Appliances division. In his new role, Mr Perrone will lead Electrolux
Group’s Business Development organisation, overseeing business strategy as well as mergers and acquisitions. He will report directly to Group CEO Yannick Fierling and will be based in Stockholm as a member of the company’s Group Management team. Before leading Haier’s UK and Ireland operation,
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has ordered electrical retailer Marks Electrical to compensate customers around £15 per affected household after determining that the company pre-selected and charged customers for extra services without their express agreement. Customers were automatically opted in for services including, ‘Recycle Old Appliance’, and/or the ‘Unwrap & Recycle Packaging’ service.
Mr Perrone headed the company’s Europe Cooling Business Unit. Earlier in his career, he held a number of senior positions within Whirlpool EMEA and also worked as a management consultant for Kearney. Welcoming Mr Perrone to the business, Mr Fierling said: “On behalf of everyone in Group Management, I want to wish Diego a warm welcome. “He’s stepping in at the perfect time. Our new strategy is one I believe in strongly, and I also believe strongly in Diego to help us make it happen.” Commenting on his appointment, Mr Perrone commented: “Joining
Electrolux Group now is
incredibly exciting. I have strong conviction in the new strategic direction, and I look forward to actively driving it and being part of the transformation the Group is undergoing.”
CMA orders Marks Electrical to compensate customers over hidden charges
The CMA states that, under consumer law,
consumers must have genuine choice over whether to pay for an extra product or service which they may or may not wish to choose. Businesses are not allowed to use pre-ticked boxes or other forms of automatic opt-in for optional extras which cost money – as was the case with Marks Electrical. As a result, the CMA has fined the company £720,000 and ordered it to refund around £600,000 in total. Further details about the investigation can be
found on the Marks Electrical consumer protection enforcement case page.
A statement on Mark Electricals website said that the Group had immediately ceased the relevant conduct following the initial CMA investigation and implemented changes to its checkout processes. It has also put in place further compliance measures in accordance with the CMA’s directions to ensure full compliance with current consumer protection requirements under the DMCC Act.
