’m so sorry if you aren’t a fan of Formula One, you’ll just have to bear with me! A few weeks ago, Lewis Hamilton took his first victory for Ferrari in
Barcelona. As with any big sporting moment, the images were everywhere. Hamilton on the podium, the celebrations, the champagne, the headlines. But Formula One is one of the best examples of why success is never really about one person. Hamilton may have been the one standing on
the top step, but that result belonged to hundreds of people. The engineers back at the factory, the designers, the strategists, the mechanics and technicians. Every one of them played a part in putting the car in a position to win. Most of them won’t appear in the photos or interviews, but without their contribution there wouldn’t have been a victory to celebrate.
It’s often the same in our industry. The products that end up on shop floors, the innovations that help retailers grow, the support that keeps businesses moving forward, none of it happens by accident. Behind every successful retailer are manufacturers and suppliers putting in the work, solving problems, developing new ideas and helping their customers succeed. You can now have your say in the supplier and manufacturer categories, with voting now open for this year’s ERT Awards. The ERT Awards gives the industry the chance
to recognise the businesses that have made a real impact over the past 12 months. Not just through great products, but through the partnerships, support and expertise they provide day in, day out.
Our retailer categories will once again be judged by an expert industry panel, but when it comes to suppliers and manufacturers, we want to hear directly from the people who work with them. The winners will be announced on 15 October at London’s Grand Connaught Rooms. With tickets now on sale, there’s still plenty of time to secure your place and join the industry in celebrating the achievements of the past year. After all, everyone sees the trophy being lifted.
It’s the people behind the scenes who often deserve just as much credit for getting it there.
