Shopfloor TAKE A TOWN Oxfordshire 42

Sales skills: 5/5

Peter B Ledbury, High Street, Witney For this issue, ERT’s team of mystery shoppers visited,

and assessed, eight stores across Oxfordshire

This business started in Wantage in 1972 and opened this shop in Witney in 2008. I was looking to buy a washing machine. Inside

the shop, I was greeted by manager George, who asked if I needed any help. I explained that our trusted washing machine was beyond repair and that I was looking for a big capacity model. George asked about our old machine and I

said that I had a 10-year-old 7kg model and I gave him the name of the brand. The first product that George presented was a 9kg Bosch washing machine (WAN28259GB),

a 1,400-spin model, priced at £479. This was a Series 4 machine that is usually priced at £579. George talked me through some of the

features, including SpeedPerfect, which reduces wash time by 65 per cent; Super Quick for washes in just 15 minutes; Iron Assist that cuts wrinkles by 50 per cent and energy efficient, so I’d save on utility bills. He rounded off his presentation by telling me that the store offers a package, priced at £70, which includes delivery, installation and testing and removal of an old appliance.

WINNING INDEPENDENT

Store presentation: 5/5

Total score: 10/10

George knew his stuff and his mentions of the price promotion and the after sales package were all strong attempts to close the sale. The store was well presented, both inside and out.
