Appliances, Preston New Road

44

This is a family-run business that has served customers since 1986. It originally focused on supplying spare parts but expanded into white goods in 1999.

I was looking to buy my first dishwasher. Inside the store, Jeanette was serving customers so I started to browse the store. After she had finished serving her customers, I explained that I hadn’t previously owned a dishwasher and she said that the key things to look for were the number of place settings and the offered guarantees.

Jeanette started by asking me if I wanted an integrated or freestanding dishwasher and whether I wanted a full-size or slimline appliance – I said that I wanted to look at freestanding and full-size appliances. Jeanette recommended a Bosch Series 2 dishwasher (SMS26AW08G), which was priced at £399. She pointed out that the model offers 12-place setting and comes with a five- year parts and labour warranty.

Jeanette told me that delivery would be

free. She added that installation of the new appliance, disposal of an old appliance and unpacking and disposal of packing would cost me £25, £25 and £5 respectively.

Jeanette was on top form. She recommended the right product, with the right level of cover and she backed that up with details of the delivery and installation. The store was well presented.

Currys, Blackpool Retail Park, Amy Johnson Way

This store’s neighbours include Aldi, Bensons for Beds and Pets at Home. I was looking to buy a range cooker. I started

to browse and was approached by Farahim, who asked what size of range cooker I was looking for and I told him that I have space for a 110cm model.

Farahim apologised that the store does not stock that size of product, but he said he would look online to see what products are available. He asked what fuel types I was looking for on a range cooker and I said that I’d like electric ovens and a ceramic hob. Farahim presented a Belling 110cm model (Cookcentre 110E), which was priced at £1,599 – however, Farahim mentioned a £200 cashback offer.

He said that the product requires hardwiring to a 32 Amp fuse and should be installed by a qualified installer and that installation of the range cooker would cost £100, if I used the Tech Experts.

Farahim knew his stuff and although the product wasn’t on the shopfloor, he did a great job presenting it online. His mentions of the cashback offer and the delivery costs were clear attempts to close the sale, The store was well presented.

Reliant, Mythop Road

With over 60 years of experience in the television, audio and kitchen appliance industry, Reliant has positioned itself as a one-stop shop for the best deals on home appliances. I was looking to buy a new TV for my new house. Inside the store, I browsed the TVs, while a member of staff was busy serving his customers.

After five minutes or so, the salesman made a call and asked John to come and serve me. John started by showing me a Samsung NEO QLED Smart TV (QE75QN1EF), which was priced at £1,099, but the set was out of stock. He introduced me to Chinese brand TCL and said that while Samsung utilises QLED across its range, TCL uses direct-backlit setups (Mini- LED) across its range. John presented a 75in TCL model (75Q6C) Mini-LED Smart TV, which was priced at £749. He said the large QD-Mini LED screen delivers cinematic visuals with bright highlights, deep blacks, and lifelike colours, bringing a theatre- like experience to your living room. John concluded his presentation by telling me that the TV delivery is free or I could collect it if I had a suitable vehicle.
