FiiO Snowsky Disc audio player

April 2026 ertonline.co.uk

GB-001 boombox, a modern reinterpretation of the 1980s icon. It’s quite the beast, with a 104 power output, fourdrivers (two woofers, two soft-dome tweeters), and support for Type I and Type II tapes, with an active AC erasing head for low-noise recording.

Unlike passive erase heads that use permanent magnets, an active AC erase head uses a high-frequency alternating current to demagnetise the tape before recording. Wiping the tape clean before making a fresh recording. Elevating the design are twin backlit VU meters, a dedicated mic input, and guitar or dual wireless mics.

Bluetooth on the move

FiiO’s companion Snowsky Disc takes a slightly different route to the same destination, blending retro inspiration with more contemporary file-based and wireless listening. The twist is that rather than spin discs, it plays audio files from microSD cards, up to 2TB. It also supports AirPlay streaming, Wi-Fi support, LDAC enhanced Bluetooth transmission, and USB DAC functionality.

For those shoppers looking to step beyond smartphone listening, or audio fans shortlisting a dedicated music device, it’s a persuasive proposition. Gadhouse’s Miko Cassette Player also plays the nostalgia card, this time tapping into the growing appeal of cassette culture. Its translucent casing and styling cues drawn from the mid-eighties cassette era, while Bluetooth and a traditional 3.5mm headphone output ensure it remains relevant to modern listening habits. The inclusion of direct recording, via a built-in

microphone, adds a little extra creative appeal. As Petch Watcharaphon, Co-founder of Gadhouse, puts it: “Almost a year in the making, our team has obsessed over every detail of Miko. With such an eye-catching design, she truly has an attitude all her own.”

A forthcoming ecosystem of blank tapes and accessories due later in 2026 raises the prospect of repeat visits and add-on sales. We Are Rewind is another brand banking on a cassette boom. It has a number of portable

cassette players, including one in Elvis Presley Livery, and another dressed to impress in Piunk Flyod’s Dark Side of the Moon art. These limited editions are highly collectable, and extremely well made, with a premium aluminium build, Bluetooth streaming support, and a rechargeable battery offering up to 12 hours of playback.

For something even more dramatic, there’s the

At the volume end of the portable Bluetooth market, Majority’s new Move speaker range has wide appeal. The brand’s four-model debut line-up, spanning the Move M1 through to the M4, offers a simple power-and-feature ladder that’s easy to follow.

The entry Move M1, in particular, is tailor- made to shift. With a 70-hour battery life, stereo pairing, water resistance and backpack-friendly portability, it would make a great option when it comes to family travel, bedroom use, shower listening or children’s audiobook playback. Palm-sized and lightweight, it’s an appealing purchase at £24.95. >>
