THE ERT INTERVIEW OO
DAN HARVIE, VP OF HOME ENTERTAINMENT & APPLIANCES AT SAMSUNG UK
14 ‘Consumers expect a seamless experience’
With a major structural shift underway at Samsung Electronics UK, ERT’s Will McGill caught up with Dan Harvie, VP of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland, to discuss what it means for retailers and the future of the connected home.
S
amsung Electronics has taken a decisive step in reshaping its UK business, bringing together its TV, AV and home appliances categories under a newly created Home Entertainment and Appliances (HEA) division. The move represents one of the most significant structural changes within the company’s UK operation in recent years, and signals a clear intention to align more closely with how consumers now live, shop and interact with technology in the home. Leading this new chapter is Dan Harvie, who steps into the role of Vice President of HEA. He describes the shift as both “exciting” and “necessary,” reflecting broader changes across the industry.
Responding to changing consumer lifestyles
“The home environment has evolved significantly over recent years,” says Mr Harvie. “Spaces like the kitchen are no longer purely
functional, they’ve become places to entertain, socialise and share experiences.” This shift has blurred the lines between traditional product categories. Where televisions, audio systems and appliances were once considered separate purchases, they are now increasingly part of a single, connected lifestyle ecosystem. Consumers renovating kitchens or designing new living spaces are just as likely to consider audio-visual solutions as they are refrigeration or cooking appliances. In Mr Harvie’s view, it therefore makes sense for Samsung’s internal structure to reflect that reality. “It’s logical to bring these categories together,” he explains. “That’s how consumers are using their homes today, and we need to mirror that in how we operate as a business.” While the structural change is significant, Mr Harvie is clear that it is not simply about organisational efficiency. It is also designed to accelerate innovation and deliver a more seamless user experience.
