TAKE A TOWN Shopfloor Dorset 36

For this issue, ERT’s team of mystery shoppers visited and assessed eight electrical retail stores across Dorset.

Purewell Electrical, Wilverley Road, Christchurch

Purewell Electrical, a family-run business, founded in 1955 by Arthur Griffiths and his wife Doreen, moved into this 15,000sq ft store in Autumn 2014.

I was looking to buy a new vacuum cleaner, as our 10-year old appliance had suddenly stopped working. Inside the store, I was greeted by Dean, who asked if he could help. Dean started by asking if we had a particular type of cleaner in mind and he mentioned wired or corded, and bagged or bagless. I said that I would prefer a wired, bagged model and Dean

said that the store sells two Sebo models, which would meet my needs.

He showed me one Sebo model (X7), which was priced at £419. Dean said that the model features an extra-long hose and a huge 11-metre cleaning radius. He added that a range of attachments come with the model, including a dusting brush, crevice tool and clamp and an upholstery nozzle. Dean said that the brush roller is in a cassette, and he demonstrated how easy it is to remove and clean. He added that the model comes with a five-year guarantee.

WINNING INDEPENDENT

Sales skills: 5/5

Store presentation: 5/5

Total score: 10/10

Dean was on good form, and the mention of the five-year guarantee was an attempt to close the sale. The store looked perfect.
