NEWSROUND Aliaxis pulls out of Lenham


A three-month redundancy consultation process at the Lenham factory of plumbing conglomerate Aliaxis, was announced last month.


The group, parent company of Marley Plumbing and Drainage, Hunter Plastics and Marley Alutec, has said that the plant might close, which would affectaround 200 people affected.


Tarkett, the flooring company, P&R Building Supplies joins NBG

Gareth Dunn, the commercial director for Aliaxis UK, told Kent Online: “Aliaxis UK has entered into a period of consultation with its employees on its proposal to make some changes as part of a new UK strategy which, depending on outcome, could see changes to activity at the Lenham site and impact a number of roles within the business.

Leicestershire-based merchant P&R Building Supplies has joined National Buying Group (NBG) as a Partner. Family-owned P&R has been in business since 1983, selling landscaping and gardening supplies, plumbing and drainage products along with general building supplies. It has branches in Colaville and Loughborough. Managing director, Lee Glover said:“Although it was immediately clear that NBG was what we were looking for when we first met with NBG’s New Partner Development and Recruitment Manager, Phil Bonar, but we knew we weren’t quite ready to make the leap. Phil kept in touch and visited the branch and when the time was right, we started the process officially. What we want now is to grow our customer-base and product lines and, ultimately, our profits, and with guidance from NBG the path ahead is a lot clearer.”


Bonar adds: “Introducing merchants to the buying power of NBG is always a pleasure. P&R is a well-established merchant which was already growing under its own steam.”

Travis Perkins revamps Maldon branch


Travis Perkins, which is part of Travis Perkins plc and is the UK’s largest distributor of materials to the construction sector, has refurbished its Maldon branch. It will boast a new Travis Perkins Hire which means that tradespeople and general builders will be able to access full tool hire and specialist equipment. A bigger yard space has also been created for the branch which means it has capacity to store more building, landscaping, and timber supplies. Connor Newman, branch manager at Travis Perkins Maldon,


said: “It’s been a few months in the making but we’re really excited to share our better than ever branch. We’ve expanded and refurbished our facilities to provide even more building, landscaping and timber supplies and hire products to our customers. Our team has many years of experience and first-hand knowledge.” Builders merchant Travis Perkins is moving its Lee Green branch from Burnt Ash Works to Burnt Ash Hill, just 0.2 miles away.
