SEALANTS AND ADHESIVES
SEAL THE DEAL C
hemicals, sealants and adhesives supplier Bond It is relocating its head office functions and its finished goods operations to a new and bigger premises located close to its existing site in Elland, West Yorkshire.
The new premises will be 42,000 sq ft, offering the company an increased stock capacity, hold in the form of 4,100 pallet locations and a layout which has been expressly developed to maximise safety and efficiency.
“These features, coupled with carefully considered systems to ensure more efficient picking and despatch, will enable us to offer even higher levels of On Time In Full (OTIF) deliveries,” says Kirstie Cooper, Bond It marketing manager.
“Our pending relocation is driven partly by necessity and partly as a precursor to our future plans. The extra space will help us to meet increasing demand for our range. It will also enhance our ability to pursue new opportunities and to pioneer new products.” Over the last year, Bond It has made a number of other investments to its production infrastructure. This includes upgrades to the powder plant, used in the production of cementitious products, and which now features new and high efficiency mixing technology.
Cooper says: “In a world where we are all looking to create more from less to maximise resources and minimise consumption and waste, this technology delivers precisely those capabilities. It enables us to manufacture larger batches of product in less time and with fewer unplanned stoppages thanks to the plant’s reliability. Further savings in time and resources are derived from simplified post-use cleaning processes.
“We’ve also invested into new machinery that has enhanced our production of specialist acid-based cleaning products - such as Bond It Brick Acid - from both an operational and environmental perspective.”
The company continues to improve the environmental credentials of its products, whether that’s increasing its yield, minimising its packaging, improving its recyclability, changing the raw materials it uses or maximising its contribution to the energy efficiency of the wider building envelope. This approach has led to the introduction of a new or enhanced additions it its ranges such as its Breeze Block Foam.
“This specialist and independently tested, airtight, multi-purpose, gun grade polyurethane foam is ideally suited for use as a gap filler on construction joints where movement is likely – for example around windows and doors,” comments Cooper. “As it forms an airtight barrier, it can prevent cold air entering a property as well as heat escaping, helping to manage heating and energy requirements. The same airtight characteristics also ensure good acoustic insulation.”
Another new product that sits alongside Breeze Block Foam in its Sustainable PU Foams range is MGF Ultra Yield.
This single part, gun grade polyurethane foam can be used for a huge variety of bonding, filling, sealing and insulating tasks

as it adheres to most common construction materials including wood, concrete, block, stone, plaster, metal, PVC and polystyrene. MGF Ultra Yield also yields 55 litres of foam from a 500ml cannister which is 50% more than conventional products.
“The ability to extract more foam from each cannister means fewer cannisters are required,” says Cooper.
“This reduces post-use waste, the use of resources to make the cannisters, and a host of other environmental impacts such as the transportation requirements (and associated vehicle emissions) involved in moving around raw materials and finished goods. “Meanwhile, a product that embodies our focus on packaging rationalising is Multi Wipes. These versatile and highly popular, anti-bacterial cleaning wipes - which can remove paint, silicone, uncured PU foam and much more from hands, tools and surfaces – are now available in a handy and resealable refill pouch. Wipes can be used direct from this pouch or used to refill previous plastic tubs. Regardless of how they are employed, their new pack format helps to reduce plastic consumption and waste.”
The company has also introduced its Bamboo Wipes, which are made from renewable and sustainable plant-based materials. They are also 100% biodegradable and completely plastic free, allowing it to be fully recycled. BMJ
