The new façade of York House is a leading example of the craftsmanship of Forterra’s Cradley Special Brick division. As the existing building was faced in a plum-coloured engineering brick, dMFK set out to source new bricks that matched this tone. In addition to the colour match, Cradley’s Blue Brindle brick was integral to the design and build in several respects.

Firstly, York House’s façade

features a dog-tooth parapet consisting of bricks at 45 degrees, which sits directly on top of the existing brickwork. Changing the orientation of this brick to create a different textural quality clearly differentiates the two aspects. The second element is the straight lattice to the ground floor, which ties into the existing façade and opens up the building by visually pulling apart the brickwork. The third and most ambitious element – and the principal reason Forterra was chosen by the design team – is the front extension formed of a lattice of angled bricks. The finished product showcases Cradley Special Brick’s skill in precision manufacture, as well as the team’s expertise and innovative approach to creating characterful, high-specification builds. www.forterra.co.uk

BPN Architects specified SterlingOSB Zero for the project as it would give the venue character whilst containing noise and offering a strong surface for objects or artwork to be attached to. The SterlingOSB Zero panels were fitted together in what Adam Mottershead, acoustic advisor to FarGo Village, describes as an “OSB sandwich”. An 18mm panel of SterlingOSB Zero OSB 3 Tongue & Groove provided the thick outer layer while a 15mm panel of

SterlingOSB Zero OSB 3 was used for the inner layer. A 12.5mm thick plasterboard filling was fitted in between the two panels to create the “OSB sandwich”. The SterlingOSB Zero sandwich is a cost-effective way to squeeze as much acoustic performance as possible out of the construction of both the ceiling and walls. www.norbord.co.uk.

The addition of flux to the binder might help avoid the formation of oxides in the joint, however, flux compounds are also on restriction lists due to health risks. Höganäs’ newly developed brazing

pastes BrazeLet® DW-9007/9017 solve these challenges. The paste is characterized by its high metal content and a very low polymer. Furthermore, it does not contain any flux additives.

Typical applications can be found in the automotive as well as heating, ventilation, air condition (HVAC) industries for components such as brazed plate heat exchangers, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) coolers or oil coolers. BrazeLet® DW-9007/9017 are part of Höganäs’ extensive portfolio of nickel and iron-based filler metals for high temperature brazing. www.hoganas.com/en/
