beverage making Quality is king
Lockdown showed many consumers that high quality beverages don’t have to be an out-of-home treat - with the right beverage making system, it’s possible to enjoy restaurant-quality beverages in your own home.

coffee whilst working from home. The survey found that 20% of people were drinking one more coffee per day, 22% drinking two more and 10% 3 three more, while 4% of people said they were drinking on average 4-7 more cups of coffee per day. The data also found that on average people

are drinking around two fewer take away coffees per week. This all adds up to good news for the in-home beverage-making market. Beverage-making products are smarter,
slicker and smaller nowadays, making freshly brewed bean-to-cup coffee something that can be enjoyed in the home, not just in a café. Low quality coffee has become a thing of the past, with consumers increasingly choosing freshly brewed coffee over instant. For consumers who value simplicity, a
cafetière and espresso maker is a kitchen essential. They’re long-lasting, simple to use, make inexpensive cups of coffee, are ideal for sharing with friends, and look stylish on your kitchen counter. Simply add your grounds into the beaker, add some boiled water and leave to brew. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a pot of fresh, rich, flavoursome coffee. Plus, there’s nothing better than the sweet aroma of coffee drifting through your kitchen in the morning. At the other end of the spectrum, there is a
plethora of high end features to choose from - from grinding beans to frothing milk to setting the optimum temperature, all at the push of a button.
recent survey conducted by Coffee Direct found that over 50% of people have admitted to drinking more
Energy saving With energy prices rising, energy efficiency is likely to continue to be a priority for all consumers, so energy-efficient appliances that will reduce overall electricity use and also save money on energy bills are likely to be popular. In recent years, rates have increased due
to rising fuel prices and increasingly stringent regulations regarding pollution control. What’s more, an increasing number of homes are being built with low-energy efficiency standards or none at all, which means many consumers could save money simply by purchasing new products themselves rather than paying higher bills for utilities. Energy-saving home appliances are getting
more affordable every year, with improvements in technology meaning manufacturers can produce more effective products at lower cost. This trend is expected to continue as manufacturing costs continue to decline and technologies continue to improve.
BA: What are consumer’s priorities when it comes to beverage making products? GR: The increasing number of us working from home has really driven a consumer focus on beverages that feel ‘profession- ally made’ or shop bought. Consumers want a high-quality beverage at the correct temperature at the touch a button, so ease of use and customisation is also crucial. And, of course, all this functionality must come with a small footprint, as surface space in kitchens remains precious, and a minimal impact on rising household energy bills.
BA: How is Strix using technology to help meet consumer needs - environmental, timesaving, cost-saving, etc? GR: We have a number of beverage making appliances that harness our Strix technol- ogy. This year, many of the new product launches under our LAICA and Aqua Optima brands are focussed around one of today’s consumer’s key concerns: energy usage. For example, with our LAICA Dual Flow 2-in-1 kettle, a product that boils only the exact water that you need, consumers can really take control of both their water and energy costs. Overboiling a kettle wastes £2 million a day in the UK alone.
Our Aqua Optima Aurora Instant Hot & Cold-Water Filter Dispenser, which allows the user to select the exact volume of the beverage they’d like. Our patented five- step Evolve+ water filtration technology removes impurities and unwanted sub- stances found in tap water and reduces chlorine and limescale by up to 80%. Each filter lasts for 30 days or 100 litres of wa- ter, saving the equivalent of 200 single-use 500ml plastic bottles, and can be recycled for free in the UK and Ireland via TerraCy- cle. That focus on making some changes to appliance design which ‘make the home environment safer, sustainable and more enjoyable’, is a key part of our strategy.
