hydration - honest bottle A sustainable choice
Georgia Bell, sales & marketing Manager, Honest spoke to Housewares Magazine about how the business is putting sustainability, transparency and innovation at the heart of the brand.
perfect and acknowledge that there is room for improvement. For example, the strap is currently made from a combination of virgin rubber and polycarbonate, for which we are actively looking to source a locally-recycled alternative with the required functionality. However, by being transparent we aim to combat greenwashing and encourage consumers and businesses to ask more questions about the products they are buying and supporting.
Housewares Magazine: What is your role at Honest? Can you tell us about your background in the industry? Georgia Bell: I’m responsible for sales and marketing at Honest. We’re still a small company, so my role goes way beyond developing marketing campaigns, reaching out to the media, attracting new customers, pitching to retailers and creating bespoke branded merchandise. In the early days, I worked closely with our materials suppliers and our manufacturing partners to make sure that our products come up to scrutiny. My team also designed the packaging and built our retail website.
I started my working life in hospitality before working in sales at one of the UK’s largest independent waste and recycling companies. When the owners sold this company to Biffa I followed them into my present role with a mission to make it a beacon for circularity.
HM: Tell us about your offering. How does it set you apart? GB: The Honest Bottle is a lightweight reusable bottle that is BPA-free. It’s easy to carry, has an ergonomic and instantly recognisable cutting-edge design, and comes in a range of eight vibrant colours. However, what truly sets it apart from the rest of the market is its sustainable credentials.

Furthermore, at the end of its natural life, it can also be easily recycled via kerbside collections. What we’ve proved is that quality doesn’t have to be compromised when making a sustainable product. Indeed, we believe that environmental/sustainable considerations should be embedded in the design process for every product. Nevertheless, we know we are not
HM: How will the product contribute to the company’s wider sustainability goals? GB: We take the view that producers should take greater responsibility for the products they make. For us, this not only means using locally sourced, sustainable materials, and manufacturing the product in the markets they are sold, but it also means we take full responsibility for the product once it comes to the end of its natural life.
The Honest Bottle and the growth of reusables will certainly help drive down sales of bottled water; and the 34,000 tonnes of single-use plastic they generate each year in the UK alone. However, this will only be achieved if consumers can easily refill them.
To address this, our Honest Project aims to increase accessibility to publicly available drinking water in every country we operate. Honest will dedicate time and resource to install publicly available water refill points, using the proceeds from sales of the Honest Bottle. The Project will also campaign for the widespread installation of publicly available water fountains, highlight the quality and cleanliness of
