HOUSEWARES AWARDS 2024 Retail Display of the Year WINNER: Borough Kitchen

This year, Borough Kitchen worked with Hackney design studio Tuesday to create a bespoke knife alcove in its Battersea store. The retailer said the display feels like a “room within a room”, a workshop environment featuring two butcher’s blocks custom-made for it by Sevenoaks-based Rencraft. It has setup stations where customers can try any knife they see in the cabinet, with the carrots it keeps on hand. Our judges said in addition to giving consumers confidence in their purchasing choices this display is perfect to show them how Western knives differ from Japanese knives. Creating an engaging and educational experience.

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Woodbridge Kitchen Company

The Woodbridge Kitchen Company’s Christmasy window display took home second place in this category. Its display is packed with all of its offerings whilst also remaining sophisticated and in keeping with the traditional British Christmas aesthetic.

The warming feeling the retailer has managed to capture is truly remarkable.

Our judges also gave the retailer extra points for its amazing use snowflake and icicle inspired lighting.

Rising Star (New) WINNER: Brian Walmsley - ReBorn Homes

Brian Walmsley had worked in the homewares industry for many years before launching ReBorn, in September 2023. His company is dedicated to creating a more sustainable approach to the homewares industry by transforming local waste into useful and stylish objects. Moreover, at the end of use, ReBorn homewares can again be “reborn again”, which further reduces landfill and eradicates the need for new materials. Our judges praised Mr Walmsley’s tenacity and willingness to move the whole industry forward in terms of the sustainable impact it has on the planet.

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Ann-Marie Siddall – Cooking Fantastic Colleagues of Ann-Marie Siddall have said she is “an absolute superstar” and the best member of staff they have worked with. After the owner of Cooking Fantastic’s husband was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain

tumour, Ms Siddal gave up her job to come and help the company back in 2022. Our judges praised and applauded her willingness to go above and beyond for her friends

within the industry. Ms Siddal has since start up her own florist business, called “If Friends were Flowers”, but still helps out in the kitchenware retailer when she can.
