THE BIG INTERVIEW

Spike up your life I

ntroducing the award- winning vertical cooking tool, mySpike, designed by

Veebha Parmar. This innovative product, now celebrated for its excellence, had its origins in humble beginnings.

“One day I was on social media and saw a lady cooking a kebab wooden skewers and potatoes, it looked amazing, so I gave it a try,” explains Ms Parmar. “Unfortunately, it was really

hard work. I had to put a lot, and I mean A LOT, of skewers in to support it to try and keep it upright. Not only this, the skewer was hard to handle and kept collapsing.” She continued to try but it just wasn’t working. There wasn’t anything online which was suitable that could help make the perfect kebab easily at home.

“So, I decided to make my own by improving and using small cake tins and long metal tent nails,” she continues. “Although it was not very vertical, it actually worked better than anything else I had tried. This gave me an idea. I can’t be the only person out there struggling. “It was at this point I said to myself ‘let’s give this a go’. Let’s design

something and make it properly, so it can help everyone make the perfect kebab.”

In August of 2018, mySpike was launched. At this stage, Ms Parmar explains, it was more of a hobby and she didn’t expect it to take off. “When Covid kicked in, everyone was cooking at home, using social  chefs and cooks to help promote mySpike,” she says.

“I was still working at a bank during this time but mySpike was beginning to take off. My work offered me redundancy and I took it, I did not blink or think twice.” Not only did this provide her with

more time for her business but it also gave her the “freedom” to be a mother. Fast forward to 2024, and the business is going from strength-to- strength. Ms Parmar is about to launch the mini mySpike in one of the UK’s biggest homeware shops, Lakeland, and she hopes to grow on this success. The spike is crafted out of high-quality stainless steel. The spike is deliberately 8mm thick by design to allow consumers easy loading via its sharp pointed tip but also to aid in the cooking process because it is thick enough so when it heats up it cooks from the inside out. mySpike has been

they are! “There are a couple of people who I put my success down to, and that is my husband, who is very supportive and still helps me to this day, and my two young children,” Ms Parmer adds. “But this is only the beginning!”
