were working on for the second quarter of the year. “In addition, we featured our new gift collection which offers more than 50 different options. It comprises our best-selling steak knives, cutlery sets and carving sets in stylish rustic dark wooden presentation cases with illustrative sleeves. There is also a wooden merchandising unit available which features a back-lit logo header and lifestyle images. “Although the collection also contains hanging packs, gift-boxed lines and loose pieces, it’s undoubtedly our
new wooden presentation boxed gift range that’s the icing on the cake! “Our regular range was a key focus due to its versatility and price points. But our new gift lines in wooden cases targeting the higher-end market were extremely well received, creating a huge amount of interest. The ideal situation is when you can discuss several different projects and ideas with buyers and I think we succeeded with that. “We have launched new offers for the second half which will be innovative yet remain at excellent price
points, and we will be reinforcing our Christmas ideas with more deals on carving sets and cookware. “Overall, the show was considerably good. We had high expectations - always expecting more (just like
everyone else!) - but were really very happy with the way it went. “So: a good review and conversion of orders. This shows us we’re heading in the right direction and, as
always, working hard to become one of the big names in the UK as we are in many other markets including US and Germany.”

Five years ago this month in Housewares Magazine…
• Brooke House Exhibitions, the organiser of London trade show Exclusively Housewares, announced plans to create a dedicated hall for its small electrical appliance (SDA) exhibitors in 2015.
• Tefal and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver celebrated their 10-year partnership of working together to develop cookware.
• Steamer Trading Cookshop revealed plans to open a 2,500sq ft store in North Yorkshire on Northallerton High Street at the end of October.
• Matthew Canwell, director of buying at Lakeland (now managing director of KitchenCraft), was named as the principal speaker at BHETA’s Open Forum on September 26.
• Homeware retailer The Range launched its first store in Scotland on August 16. The Glasgow branch was opened by celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
• Alessi exhibited at London’s Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum in September. The show offered an insight into the creative and production processes at the Italian supplier’s factory.
• Argos launched its Autumn/Winter homeware range. Highlights included the introduction of new pastels and neutrals to the exclusive ColourMatch range: bubblegum pink, jellybean blue and tutti green shades added a 1950s retro feel to kitchens.
• Business boomed at Robert Dyas following the housewares and hardware chain’s acquisition by high profile businessman Theo Paphitis a year earlier. Operating profits soared 353% to £4.89m for the year to March 30, while like-for-like sales were up 11.2% and turnover increased by 8% to £114.4m.
• Luxury department store Harrods opened a shop in the South Terminal departure lounge of Gatwick airport on August 1.
