Exclusively Show postponed to 2021 and replaced by Exclusively Digital 2020
In view of the rapidly escalating effect of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the board of BHETA - which owns and operates the Exclusively Show held annually at the Business Design Centre in June - has postponed the 2020 event until June 15 and June 16 2021. In the interim, the Exclusively Show will be
replaced with a live show called Exclusively Digital 2020. This will be an event for fully paid- up exhibitors of this year’s show and will provide an opportunity for them to present their brands and products via new interactive features on the Exclusively website. Exclusively Digital 2020 will target retail
buyers, trade and consumer press and influencers. Current exhibitors are being asked in the first instance to load their product details, videos and press releases to the website. BHETA said the Exclusively team will invest in
the provision of live and interactive opportunities for both buyers and media to maximise 2020 product and trend opportunities. BHETA added that it will carry over exhibitor
support and financial commitment to the 2021 show to secure places and offset costs that have either been incurred or will be required to support the show in 2021. Commenting on the decision, Will Jones, chief
operating officer of BHETA and chair of Exclusively, said: “Truly, we are living in unprecedented times and the impact on all our businesses and personal lives is very real. “While there’s no denying we are all facing
Bira launches coronavirus hub for members
The British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) has launched a dedicated coronavirus hub to guide its members and the wider retail community through the crisis. The online resource, accessible through the
Bira website, is billed as a one-stop shop featuring information and advice. It is being updated every day, throughout the day. Information on the hub includes: the list of businesses still allowed to trade, and those being asked to close; how and where to access emergency government support, including the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loans; details of local authority support; employee/employer guidance including details on sick pay allowance; and the latest legislation with regards to 'relaxed' trading. There are also guides to wellbeing, as well as inspirational stories of what Bira members are doing to adapt to the current situation. Bira ceo Andrew Goodacre said: “Everyone
at Bira has been working hard to ensure that our members and the wider retail community receive the support they need at this time. Our focus has been to provide accurate guidance based on information we have received from various government departments. The dedicated hub on our website will be updated on a regular basis.” Visit Bira's coronavirus hub at

significant challenges, at some point in the future, a sense of normality will return; and our industry will be able to move forward. “The decision we have made regarding
Exclusively 2020 reflects the situation in which we find ourselves, but we are marketing Exclusively Digital 2020 as something positive on which we can all collaborate in the meantime to make the best we can of a very challenging set of circumstances.” The Exclusively Show regularly has over 130 companies and 300 brands participating, representing key product categories in the housewares sector. Many big names have been part of the show for more than five consecutive years. BHETA added: ‘Retail visitor interest has been
increasing over the past few years, a testimony of Exclusively’s ability to evolve. Tried and tested features such as Trend Displays, Trend Talks and the Brand Showcase, aimed at media visitors, will remain features of the Exclusively Digital show in 2020.’

How is your business coping with COVID-19?
Industry charity the Rainy Day Trust has issued the following message: ‘The media world is full of stories of doom and gloom, but how are the businesses of the home improvement sector really coping? Tell us how you are managing to support your staff, what your needs are and how we can help you. ‘Our programmes are designed to support businesses and their staff through times of trouble, and we can be flexible in how we help. What measures have you put in place for furloughed staff? Are you topping up the government’s 80% of salary payments? What has worked for you, and what would you do differently next time? If we know what is working, we can help spread the word so that the whole sector benefits. You can learn from others’ successes and replicate them. ‘We can also bed in our free-to-all services such as debt advice, legal advice and free telephone counselling. These services can be accessed by anyone and everyone working for and with you. ‘Humans are sociable animals and long periods of isolation can bring anxiety and stress. Our telephone counselling service is perfect to break the cycle of depression before it takes hold. ‘For those that are on lower salaries, we
have a COVID-19 fast-grant alongside our routine support. Looking after people who are struggling through tough times is what we are here to do. It is why we exist. ‘So, talk to us, tell us how you are coping,
