The cream of the industry came together on February 5 to celebrate The Housewares Innovation Awards 2018


he housewares industry turned out in force on the night of February 5 to attend The Housewares Innovation


Awards at The National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham. The ceremony was organised by Datateam


Business Media, publisher of Housewares magazine and its digital platform www.HousewaresLive.net, in partnership with Spring Fair. Hosted by film director, actor and presenter


Ryan Philpott, the event attracted more than 300 guests. Proceedings kicked off with a drinks


reception sponsored by DKB Household UK, where attendees enjoyed networking with their peers. Publication and event manager Laurie


Marrington then took to the stage to welcome the audience. She said: “I can’t believe this is our third year of holding the Housewares Innovation Awards alongside Spring Fair - and I’m thrilled to see so many of you here to celebrate all the hard work that has contributed to making the housewares industry so successful. “This year we received a record number of


award entries and they truly raised the bar – which is great for the industry, but not so great for our judges who had to pick the winners! It was a difficult task to undertake, so I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to all of the judges [and to Dexam for hosting the judging sessions at their headquarters]. “I’d also like to extend a huge thank you to all


of this year’s sponsors - without their continued support, the Awards would not be possible.” She then pointed out that each dinner table included a selfie stick sponsored by Gourmet


Her address was followed by a three-course Co-presenters

dinner sponsored by Stax Trade Centres, after which Ryan and co-presenters Joe Fattorini, star of Channel 5’s ‘The Wine Show’, and celebrity chef Jeremy Pang announced the winners of the 25 award categories. There was also a special guest appearance by Ken Hom OBE. Other highlights included the presence of


roving silhouette artist Charles Burns, sponsored by Brookes & Co, who cut paper portraits of a selection of guests; and a raffle for a 4200XL food processor donated by Magimix. Finally, a collection held during the evening


for industry charity the Rainy Day Trust raised £1,584.93 (including Gift Aid), thanks to the generosity of our guests.

• A date for your diary: The Housewares Innovation Awards 2019 will return to the same venue on Monday February 4.


Gadgetry, and encouraged guests to tweet photos using the hashtag #gourmetselfie to be in with a chance to win a bundle of Gourmet Gadgetry prizes. She also drew attention to a selection of


housewares products on each table from JWP, Katy Sue Designs, Melitta and Pyrex, which carried gift tags saying: ‘Take me I’m yours’. “Please feel free to take them home!” Laurie confirmed.
