Joe Fattorini hosts a wine tasting F

un – but exhausting!” That’s how Joe Fattorini describes his experience of hosting an informal ‘meet and greet’

experience on the Housewares LIVE stand at the Spring Fair on Monday February 5. The wine expert discussed and

demonstrated products from The Wine Show collection, which comprises 14 accessories from the Vacu Vin brand (part of Dutch Creative Brands group) for opening, pouring, chilling, serving and saving wine. The range is endorsed by the TV series of the same name, which Joe co-presents. The items are a double-hinged corkscrew,

foil cutter, Snap thermometer, wine server crystal, Active Wine cooler sleeve, set of six wine stoppers, wine aerator, champagne saver, vacuum Wine Pump (available on a blister card with one stopper, or in a gift box with two stoppers), a set of four red wine glasses, a set of four white wine glasses, plus two gift sets – the Wine Essential gift set and the Glassware & Wine Accessories set. “People asked so many questions – including

some seriously technical ones - that really kept me on my toes,” Joe recalls. “And with the open format, I had no idea who was going to ask what. But I think I kept up. It’s important for people to be able to see the products you’re talking about in context. “And it’s fun, because people can just stop by

and talk. I had lots of selfies and I often end up chatting on email with people afterwards. It’s nice to be able to follow up with recommendations and so on. “We have lots of people who still love the

original Vacu Vin stoppers. I use mine almost every day. But what visitors found interesting was how refrigerating a red wine whilst using a Vacu Vin stopper gives it an even longer life. You just have to let it warm up gently for 45 minutes or so while you cook supper.” Joe spent time on the Dutch Creative Brands

stand at the Spring Fair too where, according to business development representative Julieanne Boyce, he “certainly created a buzz”. She explains: “He was generous with his knowledge of wine and talked easily with customers (both new and old) on the benefits of The Wine Show collection of products. Everyone who saw him got a real appreciation of our Vacu Vin wine accessories and how they could drive business in their stores. “The recent airing of the second series of

‘The Wine Show’ on Channel 5 has certainly had a positive impact on the range, with many visitors advising us that they had enjoyed the show and had come to see us to discover more.” Produced by Infinity Creative Media, The

Wine Show is broadcast in 106 countries. It first aired last year on ITV. Series two followed in a prime-time slot on Channel 5 in January and, according to Joe, “we’re hoping to make a third series soon. The reception from people has been wonderful. We’re just delighted everyone has enjoyed it so much.” Overall, he says, he enjoyed his time at the

Spring Fair enormously. “It’s a great event,” he says, “and each year I’m surprised by the people I bump into. This year and last I met long-since- disconnected friends. And in both cases,

interesting opportunities came out of meeting them again. It’s also extraordinary to discover product innovations that you had no idea were coming up.” Dutch Creative Brands also showcased its

new Vacu Vin wine products - the Vacu Vin Slow Wine Pourer, and the next generation Vacu Vin Wine Server and Saver – and received “extremely positive reactions” to both, along with its Tomorrow’s Kitchen brand of products, “so we couldn’t have asked for more,” Julieanne says. “We were also encouraged by the level of

new interest we had for all of our brands - Vacu Vin, Tomorrow’s Kitchen and The Wine Show - especially considering the fact that the housewares retail market has had some tough obstacles to overcome, with rising rent and rate charges and bad weather in the latter half of 2017, to name just a couple.”
