shownews Malcolm Harradine wows the crowds

ChefMalcolm Harradinedemonstrated a selection of products on the Housewares LIVE stand over the course of the Spring Fair

T

his was my third year as a chef demonstrator on the Housewares LIVE stand I thoroughly enjoyed

the experience.” So says kitchenware expert Malcolm

Harradine, who enthusiastically put several housewares through their paces during the five-day Spring Fair, which ran from February 4 to February 8 at the NEC in Birmingham. “It gave me the opportunity to use a

selection of products - which were a joy to demonstrate - and at the same time, support celebrity chefs Ken Hom OBE and Jeremy Pang. “Visitors to the Spring Fair are always on the

lookout for the latest innovative products to drive sales and the Housewares LIVE stand

gives them the chance to see housewares being put to the test right in front of their eyes. “New products are the lifeblood of both

retailers and consumers and the stand is there to help showcase them. “My highlights included the SMART Bacon

Express from SMART Worldwide, which was very impressive and deserved to win the Small Electricals Innovation category of The Housewares Innovation Awards 2018. I was impressed with SMART Samosa Maker too - and so were the visitors. “This was also the case with the Betty

Crocker microwave cake/brownie maker from JWP. The audience had the opportunity to touch and feel and was amazed seeing chocolate cake and brownies come out of the microwave, cooked in just five minutes and 3.5 minutes respectively. “Meanwhile, What More UK had two ranges

on the stand. First, the fantastic PushPans, which I just love. Available in anodised aluminium or non-stick heavy gauge steel in a range of sizes, each base incorporates a silicone seal (that’s 100% leaf-proof and watertight) which makes it very easy to extract the finished cake, with no need to line. “The second range was Baker & Salt: a

stunning and beautiful range of cream inner and black outer vitreous enamel bakeware that won the Bakeware Innovation category of The Housewares Innovation Awards 2018 - and quite right too.

“Finally, as a TV knife demonstrator in the

past, I just love knives. The weight and balance of a knife is paramount, so the FURI range certainly impressed me. The wedged shape handle fits snugly in the hand - with no fear of the fingers edging towards the back of the blade - and the heel of the knife is also protected from this from happening. Plus, for me, the FURI knife sharpener is the best on the market.”

•Malcolm demonstrated products from Strahl, CellarDine, Creative Products, FURI, JWP, Pyrex, SMART Worldwide, Taylor’s Eye Witness, What More UK and The World’s Best Pan Company.
