plenty of plans to keep us busy in the coming months. British shoppers demand high quality goods that are priced competitively – and that’s an arena we can confidently occupy. So we’re very hopeful for the next 12 months.”

The Steamer Trading Cookshop branch in the Yorkshire market town of Beverley is now owned by ProCook

free home delivery service for purchases made in- store, to encourage customers to come into stores and try a product before purchase. In the six weeks of peak trading leading up to

December 31, ProCook reported headline sales growth of 21%. It said the result was driven by a 26% increase in online sales and 16% lift in retail sales during the period (which incorporates Black Friday, the Christmas build-up and the immediate post- Christmas shopping days). ProCook noted that like-for-like figures ‘also

delivered great results, with retail achieving a 3% increase at a time when many retailers saw negative figures’. Black Friday week was another record breaker, with ProCook taking over £1.2 million in sales: a 21% increase on last year. Commenting on the results, which were released on January 8 - a day before the Steamer Trading Cookshop acquisition announcement - Daniel said: “Christmas was a great success for us and a very welcome conclusion to 2018. We pulled out all the stops over the peak period to deliver compelling offers for our customers, and these figures show we made the right decisions. We had exceptional growth in 2017, leaving big boots to fill. But we’ve sustained that success and put ourselves on a good footing for the challenges ahead in 2019. “Our philosophy is that as retailers we must remain agile in the current climate, and we have

‘A fantastic opportunity’ A day later, Daniel was “delighted” to share his acquisition news, saying: “We see it as a fantastic opportunity for Steamer Trading Cookshop and ProCook to grow both brands. Our focus will continue to be on providing excellent value for money, great service and innovative high-quality homeware. “We are very excited about the future, though because of high rent and rates, and the current retail climate, we had to make the decision not to take on all the stores. However, we will endeavour to fill all vacancies across our stores by transferring people from closing stores. “The acquisition of Steamer Trading Cookshop

provided ProCook with a unique opportunity to gain immediate access to many great High Street locations across the UK, almost doubling our total store count overnight to 64. These locations provide the perfect base to expand exclusive ProCook products to a far larger market, which should successfully grow both our retail and website businesses.” He stressed: “Steamer Trading Cookshop will be run as a separate company keeping 27 of its stores,

its own website and many of its product lines. We strongly believe in the brand and are excited to grow both ProCook and Steamer Trading Cookshop to maximise the synergies between both brands. “We have retained Steamer Trading Cookshop’s trading director Clare Burgess (who will continue to run the stores), along with the buying and merchandising teams and regional managers. We will be keeping the respected Steamer Trading Cookshop name on the website and above the door. “[For Steamer Trading Cookshop], we are planning

to do a great mix of iconic branded goods alongside exclusive products offering fantastic value for money. Our existing ProCook Stores will continue to sell exclusive own-brand products. “In the short term, we hope to continue to trade with many of Steamer Trading Cookshop’s previous suppliers. In the long term we may instigate some changes. “We hope to retain the unique niche market that

Steamer Trading Cookshop holds and add to its appeal by introducing better value for money innovative homewares products.” Clare Burgess will now head up the Steamer

Trading Cookshop brand. She said: “While I’m sad to say goodbye to some colleagues, I’m excited about the future for Steamer Trading Cookshop. “The new Steamer Trading Cookshop stores will

be offering an exciting shopping experience with a great mix of exclusive products alongside iconic kitchen and homeware brands.”
