• Derby-based housewares supplier Denby commemorated 200 years of trading at the Spring Fair.


• Plasticware manufacturer Thumbs Up Bury was bucking the recession, investing heavily in new machinery and increasing its exports.


• Celebrity designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen paid a visit to the Spring Fair to promote his new cutlery collection on the Arthur Price stand.


• Housewares Magazine’s Mystery Shopper visited Maidstone and nominated Robert Dyas as the winner of a survey of the Kent town’s housewares retailers, commenting: ‘As the self-styled Really Useful Store, it is what it is and it does it well.’ The branch beat rivals Cook & Dine Store and House of Fraser.

• Lakeland repeated its ‘The Next Big’ event at the Spring Fair. The housewares chain’s buyers invited suppliers to pitch new innovative kitchenware, storage and home cleaning products or protoypes to them at a session held during the show.


• Nordicware revealed that the day after celebrity cook Nigella Lawson used its Holiday Tree Bundt pan on TV in early December to make her Spruced Up Vanilla Cake, all of its stock of the product sold out in 20 minutes.
