Partnership to drive A1 R410A replacement
H
oneywell has joined forces with Sanhua, a manufacturer that commercialises Solstice N41 (R466A) for use in existing and new
HVAC applications.
R 466A is a nonflammable and lower global- warming-potential (GWP) refrigerant designed to replace R410A in stationary air conditioning systems.
Chris LaPietra, vice president and general manager, Honeywell Stationary Refrigerants, s aid: “We specifically designed Solstice N41 to solve industry challenges and comply with regulations – this will be a revolutionary solution once it is ready for adoption later this year. This partnership with Sanhua reaffirms our commitment to delivering a safe, energy efficient and environmentally sustainable alternative to R 410A.”
Once commercially available in late 2019, Solstice N41 will be one of the first A1
nonflammable, lower GWP R410A replacements offered for stationary air conditioning systems.
Solstice N41 also offers a GWP that is 65% lower than R410A.
Huang Ningjie, vice president and chief scientist of Sanhua Holding Group, said: “The n onflammability attributes of Solstice N41 make it a game-changer for the HVAC industry. We have achieved significant progress on qualifications of HVAC critical components for use in air c onditioner refrigerants using Solstice N41, and t he assessment is expected to be completed w ithin this year. We’re well positioned to serve the industry as it prepares to transition to Solstice N41 later this year.”
N41 significantly reduces the need fo r additiona l design and eliminates the need to incorporate a ny sensors typically required for minimising flammability risk. Early results also indicate t his nonflammable, lower GWP alternative to R410A will eliminate the need for specialised contractor training for flammability mitigation – an advantage for the industry as it struggles to recruit and retain certified contractors.

The society sought nominations for this award t hrough the press and other air conditioning and refrigeration medial channels. The award was presented by Steve Gill, former president of the Institute of Refrigeration and founder of the World Refrigeration Day initiative.
J
M r Gill explained that the recipient of the award was a very professional, enthusiastic and dedicated i ndividual who had served the RACHP industry for many years and deserved the recognition for their achievements.
ohn Emm is the first recipient of the new HRS-WRD award, conceived to celebrate World R efrigeration Day.
