Labelling Solutions

Multi-page labels enhance packaging aesthetics P

roduct manufacturers are being bombarded with more and more packaging regulations, which could be

causing information- overload. As a result of this, manufacturers are faced with having to find slicker solutions for managing on- pack product information containing cosmetic ingredients, chemical hazard warnings, nutritional, or medicinal information. Enabling products to comply with labelling

regulations, without detracting from the container’s shelf appeal or making it appear cluttered, has become a speciality for Denny Bros. The company has operated in multi-page labels since the 1970s and is now one of the leading print companies producing labelling solutions for multiple industries including pharmaceutical, agrochemical, food and drink, cosmetics and car care. The company’s Fix-a-Form multi-page labels can

be attached to any packaging surface across wide ranging temperature scales. They economically combine large amounts of information in one or several languages. This means that there is no need to create a separate label for each country, exporters can streamline production

can be tailored to suit different product needs and applied with standard industry-labelling equipment. In order for the label to remain with a product for its entire life span it is affixed with a special adhesive. This is particularly useful when repeat reference information is included. Multi-page labels are ideal for on-pack use

where engaging and interactive labels are desired. These labels can help to draw attention to special offers, promotions and campaigns, encouraging repeat purchases

and simplify the management of inventories. Multi-page labels can incorporate special

print characteristics in order to be multi- functional, as certain industries require. These labels can include moisture resistance, security and tamper-evident features, unique or random codes, braille, special adhesives and finishes, an ability to cope with temperature extremes, tactile warning triangles and scratch-off panels. Denny Bros’ compact labelling system provides cost-effective ways to meet legislative

whilst providing clear product information. A multi-page label can be used to replace a

leaflet carton combination, this reduces packaging requirements and improves environmental credentials for manufacturers. Protecting a brand, by ensuring that a product

remains aesthetically pleasing, yet also meets regulation labelling requirements, does not have to be as challenging as it is perceived. Teaming up with a specialist print partner such as Denny Bros simplifies the task and provides results every time. uwww.dennybros.com

responsibilities with the added bonus of being available in a range of shapes and sizes, which can be tailored to individual needs. These labels occupy the same space as an original single panel label, but can contain up to 120 pages of extra information, as they are a combination of a printed and folded leaflet with a self-adhesive label. This safeguards the design aesthetics. Supplied in a standard reel format, the labels

P

olar has an 80 per cent export rate, over 100 years’ experience in cutting technology and places an emphasis on innovation. Polar will be demonstrating its highly

automated LabelSystem DC-11 plus, at a stand shared with Gallus, at Labelexpo 2017 (Hall 5, Stand C31, Brussels, September 25-28). This 24-packs-a-minute die-cutting system

begins with a printed sheet and delivers a banded die-cut pack of labels ready for delivery at the end. This machine can handle a wide range of label papers and other materials, including plastic cards. The operator of the LabelSystem DC-11 is

supported by a menu-driven interface, which considerably reduces set up time. With the ‘OptiChange’ feature it is possible to changeover jobs in just 15 minutes. OnePunchRegister adjusts the cutting die

quickly and easily. No tools are required for setting up the Label System, but the precision of

cut is ensured using the locking device. It is a machine that can minimise waste. The production process starts with the

printed sheets positioned in the automatic jogger, the edges perfectly aligned. The jogger has an integrated counting scale so that the cutting reams are uniform. After that, the high speed cutter, N115 Pro

HD, trims the ream on all four sides before cutting the material into strips that are then transferred via the LTS loading table to the Polar Autocut 25plus, which takes two strips at a time and cuts them into singles. An automatic label feeding system separates the

two label stacks, ensuring an accurate stack before presenting the labels to the ram punch that cuts the profile shape into the stack and finally presents the cut stack into the inline bander. The BDplus bander is capable of both east-west and north- south banding as well as producing maxi packs.

Operating with an ultrasonic welding unit, which does not require preheating, means that is always ready for use, is gentle on the material and does not cause any unpleasant odours. One user is Walcher & Rees, managing director,

Fabian Walz, likes the effective workflow and increase in final speed and processing volumes. He says, “We are now able to process hundreds of the most varied formats accurately and reliably and with very rapid retooling.” The large LTS table, which by contrast with the

company’s earlier models is significantly easier to load and can hold a pre-buffer of up to three reams, is a contributing factor, as is the fact that there is greater scope for adjustment in, for instance, tilting, rotating and distortion handling. The LabelSystem DC-11 can handle label sizes

from 20 x 40mm up to 120 x 120mm (two strips) or 170 x 210mm (single strip). uwww.polar-mohr.com
