SUPPLIER INSIGHTS
INTRODUCING THE ASBCI COLUMN
Footwear & Fashion Today introduces the Association of
Supplier to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI) who will be providing insights into the fashion and footwear sectors.
T
he ASBCI will be a new serialised column in the coming issues and will present industry advice, information and news
about the fashion, accessories and footwear sector, helping to provide better understanding of the issues affecting the industry.
The history of the ASBCI Founded more than 50 years ago, the Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI) began as a consortium focused on establishing a code of practice for British-made interlinings and has evolved into a cornerstone of technical excellence for the UK fashion and textiles sector. As BIMA (British Interlining Manufacturers
Association), we delivered our first series of technical workshops in 1978, and our commitment to knowledge sharing and bringing members together to address industry challenges remains unchanged to this day.
In 1992, following requests from retailers and suppliers to join the network, BIMA rebranded as the ASBCI. Our membership expanded to include organisation from every sector of the fashion and textiles industry, from fibres and fabrics to retailing and aftercare. Today, the ASBCI represents a diverse membership encompassing high street retailers, manufacturers, testing laboratories, digital innovators, consultants and academic institutions. This breadth enables a unique, end-to-end view of the challenges and opportunities facing the modern fashion and footwear industry.
Insights the ABSCI provides While our membership has changed over the years, the ASBCI remains a centre of technical and commercial excellence, where companies at the forefront of their sectors can discuss, share, and develop best practices, processes, and initiatives to benefit their organisations and the
UK clothing supply chain as a whole. Our conferences, seminars, technical visits, and publications provide members with actionable insights on issues ranging from key legislative and regulatory compliance to environmental and ethical best practice, textile testing and digital transformation. As an association, we evaluate thought
leadership and examine new ideas and technological innovations to bring fresh perspectives and credible content that benefit the industry and enhance the fashion value chain.
Our ongoing Fashion the Change webinar
series, for examples, focuses on thinking differently, addressing the pain points in the fashion value chain to ensure that processes don’t just add value to the product but also deliver against the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit. In each episode, guests share their experiences and knowledge of critical industry issues. “The ASBCI is delighted to be working with
Footwear & Fashion Today magazine and we look forward to contributing expert insight and informed commentary on the issues shaping the future of fashion and footwear, supporting the industry to adapt, innovate and grow in an increasingly complex marketplace,” explains Dr Julie King, ASBCI Chair.
