Series 9 offers wide range of APDs optimized for LIDAR applications
W
ith the Series 9, First Sensor offers a wide range of silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) with very high
sensitivity in the near infrared (NIR) wavelength range, especially at 905 nm. With their internal gain mechanism, large dynamic range and fast rise time the APDs are ideal for LIDAR systems for optical distance measurement and object recognition according to the time of flight method. Application examples include driver assistance systems, drones, safety laser scanners, 3D-mapping and robotics. The Series 9 offers detectors as single elements as well as linear and matrix arrays with multiple sensing elements. For particularly low light levels, hybrid solutions are also available that further enhance the APD signal with an internal transimpedance amplifier (TIA). Thanks to its own semiconductor manufacturing facility
and extensive development capabilities, First Sensor can adapt its silicon avalanche photodiodes to specific customer requirements, e.g. in terms of sensitivity, gain, rise time or design.

Sensata’s NOVA22 Solid State Relay Now Features 45mm DIN Rail Model
HVAC&R and railway vehicles. This new DIN rail mount SSR offers high power density up to 60 Amps at 40°C in a compact, 45mm package and is the only SSR capable of accepting output wires up to 3 AWG with an IP20 protection rating. The SSR is ready-to-use with integrated heat sinks designed to provide the appropriate thermal resistance for the application without the need for cumbersome calculations, simplifying the specification process for the user. Cage clamp output connections provide a finger touch-safe IP20 protection rating and allow for quick and easy installation of large wires directly to the SSR, without the need for lug terminals or other accessories. Input connection options include standard ‘screw’ or ‘spring’ cage terminals for flexible design into a variety of applications. Designed for superior thermal performance, the

DR45 solid state relay also features optional built-in overvoltage protection, contactor configurations and either AC or DC control. The new SSR is available in a wide AC output voltage range of 48 to 600 VAC and holds C-UL-US, VDE, CE and RoHS approvals. With its versatile current-carrying capacity levels, the DR45 broadens the array of applications for the NOVA22 DIN Rail mount products which include access control, HVAC&R, industrial ovens, food processing and packaging equipment, railway vehicles and more.
In addition to its newest DR45 series, the NOVA22 family includes 22.5mm DIN rail and panel mount solid state
relays with power density up to 95 Amps at 600 VAC, the DRML1 load monitoring module that detects partial or total load failure up to eight loads and the PMP Series of Proportional Controllers.

Polymer Training & Innovation Centre Protected by Bunting Drawer Filter Magnet
T
he Polymer Training & Innovation Centre in Telford has added a Bunting Magnetics Drawer Filter Magnet to the
range of equipment at their plastics manufacturing training facility. The FF Drawer Filter Magnet attracts and captures any fine and coarse magnetically susceptible materials that enter the plastics manufacturing process. Technical Trainer, Andrew Dermody, explained the
importance of trainees having practical training on the equipment. “We have great support from the industry and equipment manufacturers such as Bunting. This support means that we can deliver practical training, with a hands- on approach, and that is the best way for our delegates to learn. Having the Drawer Filter Magnet installed exactly as it would be in a production plant, is an ideal way to show our students best-practice and highlight the importance of metal removal.”

monitoring Claus reactors during the recovery of elemental sulfur from process streams. In this setup, ATEX- certified infrared thermometers measure temperatures inside the furnace with short response times. Temperature control of the sulfur recovery process is vital since temperature variations can upset the chemical reaction, causing damage to the fire-clay refractory or even failure of the reactor. Conventionally, thermocouples are used for this application. Such probes must be exchanged at very short intervals, because of the highly corrosive process gases, resulting in significant maintenance costs and downtime. To overcome this problem, thermocouples can be embedded in the refractory or fully shielded by an enclosure. However, this leads to very long response times and inaccurate temperature readings. The tried-and-tested Fluke Process Instruments solution removes the thermocouple at 500 °C, before it can be damaged, and inserts a Raytek Thermalert TX pyrometer in the same opening.

Smart pyrometers for plug & play factory automation F
luke Process Instruments has launched the Thermalert 4.0 spot pyrometer series for automatic noncontact temperature monitoring between -40 °C and 2,250 °C. The series currently comprises 13 models with varied
spectral responses, including dedicated sensors for metals, glass, and plastics products. A large choice of optics is available for long and short focal distances. Due to the outstanding ambient temperature range of -20 °C to 85 °C, more measuring points can be set up without cooling accessories and without installing cooling media supplies. The rugged IP65 infrared thermometers exhibit best-in-class
repeatabilities, response times, and accuracies. The system software supports remote configuration, monitoring, field calibration, and firmware updates. These functions can significantly lower service costs and time spent on setup and troubleshooting. Plug & play operation further facilitates installation and maintenance. The sensors feature galvanically isolated analog and RS485 interfaces.
