t Rising Vibe we instigate conversations that matter. We’re passionate about men and women,


women right now, but when it comes to accessing supportive resources, men are at a huge disadvantage. The Rising Vibe brother brand, Calling Out The Men, provides emotional support for men in the business world. We say “it’s okay to talk,” but talking isn’t enough. And what are the rules? Are there any rules? Or is it just about being human? We know that men find it harder


to talk about how they feel and the results of this inhibition can be devastating. Lou Banks, founder of Rising Vibe, has seen men suffer with anxiety, low self-esteem and depression. She’s seen repressed feelings surface as alcohol dependency and depression turn to suicide. She’s seen male clients who appear to ‘have it all’ but are completely lost, with no support network to catch them. The ‘Masculinity Audit 2016’, conducted by CALM and the Huffington Post, addressed the gender imbalance in suicide by understanding more about the specific challenges faced by men today. While money worries, health, work and family are commonly frustrating things, it is men that are more likely to cite their career or job as a serious concern. The report says: “As awareness of the pressures men encounter is growing, the state of modern masculinity continues to change. Ongoing scrutiny – through research like this – is crucial to understanding the male bias in suicide in the UK, building better support, and keeping men and boys alive.” There’s increasing awareness


around men’s mental health, which is great, but what’s next? Yes, it’s good to talk, and there is no shame in admitting to feelings of fear,


depression and anxiety. But what then? This is where Calling Out The Men comes in, providing a practical approach for men to feel better. We work with men in business to come forward and talk about how they’re really feeling, where they might be stuck and why. At Rising Vibe we understand and expose those ingrained businessman stereotypes and get right under the skin of why men find it hard to open up emotionally in the workplace. Lou Banks’ goal is to dispel the myth that honesty around emotions is weak and that, actually, vulnerability is strength. It’s about time. We love a process and a framework and we understand that this kind of approach works well with men.
