FRANCHISE HEROES
Five minutes with... Dan Archer, managing director, Visiting Angels UK
How did you get involved in franchising? By accident! A 20-year, career-defi ning accident as it turns out. I got a job with Signs Express, but pre-internet it wasn’t easy to research a company, so I didn’t know it was a franchise. Needless to say, I learned quickly and soon grew to love the franchise sector. I’ve been really lucky to have worked with some amazing franchises – as well as with the bfa – and had so many mentors. The real highlight, though, has been bringing Visiting Angels to the UK.
Your childhood dream job? Professional footballer – my dad is a big Nottingham Forest fan and my love of Man United is a constant disappointment!
NICK NOLTE
How do you relax? Family life is where I am really able to relax. My wife Lucy and I love taking walks in Yorkshire with our dogs, Monty and Mikey. I may just be a proud Yorkshireman, but in my opinion “God’s own County” is the most beautiful in the UK!
Do you follow a sports team? (and why?) The aforementioned MUFC. I think your team picks you rather than the other way round, but when I fi rst started watching United they weren’t the best! I’ve watched them play all over the world – including Moscow for the European Cup win.

Tell us a little-known fact about you… I competed in the British Taekwondo Championships whilst at uni and won a bronze medal. I wore it for about a month!
What's your... drink of choice? Coffee, double espresso, sparkling water.
Holiday destination? We went on safari for our honeymoon and we loved it.
Dinner party guests? My wife Lucy, Brian Clough, James Dean, JK Rowling and my Nan
Who’s on the dinner party soundtrack? It's mostly metal: Audioslave, Rob Zombie, Stone Sour and Black Stone Cherry.
Who’d play you in the fi lm of your life? Nick Nolte – one for the kids!
Give us one piece of business advice... It takes time, enthusiasm and persistence to bring about change.
How would you like to be remembered? I’ve worked with over 400 franchisees, and if I’ve helped them to realise their dreams, I’m happy to have been along for the ride!
