FRANCHISEFOCUS IN V ESTMENT: FROM £60,000 A digital leader
Vodafone is now franchising throughout the UK. Here, the brand shares some insights into its business model
Vodafone is a household name, but it’s not widely known as a franchise. Is it new to franchising? Vodafone isn’t new to franchising. In fact, 80 per cent of our global retail estate are franchise stores, so it seemed like the next logical step for Vodafone UK to follow. It has also provided us with the opportunity to work with external entrepreneurs who have brought fresh eyes to the company, allowing us to learn and develop the franchise programme with their help.
Who are you looking for and what territories are available? We’re looking for passionate and driven entrepreneurs who want to run their own business but with the support of a recognised and established brand. We want hands-on franchisees who will be present in their stores, focusing their attention on building and mentoring their teams to achieve and exceed their business objectives. Some of our franchisees have up to three Vodafone stores. We do, however, still expect these franchisees to work full time on building their businesses. We’ve successfully opened 88 UK
franchise stores in just 18 months. A few of our territories are almost at capacity but we will negotiate stores with each candidate individually.
In what ways does Vodafone stand out above other franchise brands? It is one of the world's leading mobile communications providers, operating in 26 countries and in partnership with networks in over 55 more. Across the world, it has almost 444 million customers, with around 19.5 million in the UK. But more than that, we are passionate about what we do. Who we are and what we stand for are at the heart of our business. We also love supporting our local communities through fundraising and volunteering activities, and we’re just as interested in how our people
go about their working days. It all boils down to our three key values
of speed, simplicity and trust: by being quick to deliver, while being clear in what we say and do, our customers will continue to believe in us. With the internet, digital technology and mobile innovation driving unimaginable change, we strive to be an admired leader at every opportunity, giving our partner agents the best chance to shine by providing them with the competitive edge they need.
What investment is involved in running a Vodafone franchise? We do not ask for a franchise fee. You’ll just need to demonstrate that you have access to an average of three months’ operating costs. This could be through personal funds, bank loans, bank overdrafts or a mixture. This amount will vary from store to store depending on the stores’ locations and size.
What do I get in return for running a partner agent store for Vodafone? We’ll provide you with all the training and support you need to become a successful partner agent. You will get a fully stocked, fitted and staffed existing store, so you can hit the ground running from day one as soon as you get the keys. Any profits you make are yours. On average, you could earn between £45,000 and £100,000 per year, depending on the number of stores you own and how you operate them. What’s more, these numbers are uncapped and it’s in your control to earn even more. l
