Radfield Home Care


Dave Bellis previously worked as an accountant at Shell for over 15 years. He launched his Radfield Home Care fra nchise in the Liverpool Nort h area just over a year ago.


Why franchising and why with Radfi eld Home Care? I'd worked as an accountant at Shell and it had taken me all over the world... but redundancy was impending. I'd had plenty of notice, however, so I began looking at what I wanted to do. I went to The National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC in February 2017 looking at fi nancial franchises, but I spent my last 10 minutes chatting with Radfi eld’s digital marketing manager, Phil. Healthcare has always run in my family:


my father was a doctor, my mother a nurse and my brother’s a dentist and we have always liked to give back. So on meeting Radfi eld Home Care at the show, their family values came through and something just really seemed to fi t. As a result, I ended up making my mind up on the motorway back home – Radfi eld Home Care was the franchise for me!


What job satisfaction does it provide? Every day is like a blank sheet of paper with everything to play for to take your business, and your destiny, where you want it to be. I love it, no two days are the same. Don’t get me wrong, you have to work hard, but because you enjoy it, it doesn't feel like work. The main thing I enjoy is making a difference to the clients we care for and the staff we provide a career and future for. It helps me sleep well at night knowing I am giving something back.


What support do you receive? The support structure has most certainly helped. I was one of Radfi eld’s fi rst franchise partners, so I have watched the network grow. From day one I had the support and hand-holding needed to help me grow through my fi rst months of trading. I have my dedicated franchise support manager


who is continuing to support me to grow and overcome challenges that any new business will face – from a healthcare, HR and business management perspective. I have been very, very happy with the support I have received; there is always someone at the end of the telephone and they are not afraid to get their hands dirty and support me with running the business. I owe everything to Radfi eld for this opportunity. I could not have started this on my own (well, I could, but I would have almost certainly failed!).


Any words of advice for others considering a care franchise? If I had to give someone new to the sector one piece of advice, it would be to recruit the best care manager you possibly can as a number-one priority. Don’t save on that at all, pay top dollar and get the best.


UK elderly care – the future in numbers 50% 85+ 850k


The population aged 65 years and over is projected to grow by around 50% in both urban and rura l areas between 2016 and 2039.


In mid-2016, there were 1.6m people aged 85+. Projections are: 3.2m by 2041 and 5.1m by 2066 – making 7% of the population.


An estimated 850,000 people have dementia (only two- thirds have been diagnosed). By 2025, it is estimated this figure will be around 1m.
