MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS BOOM It was a year after the Beijing conference that Christine Guyott (pictured below) discovered FCSI. Like Pi, she got as involved as she could early on, joining a conference planning committee immediately. She went on to become chair of the Americas division, a position she holds today. And while it has never been her explicit intention to be a role model or inspiration for other women, it’s happened, nonetheless. “Tere are so many more women coming up behind me and it feeds my soul when I hear that they’ve seen me doing it, they’ve seen that it’s possible,” she smiles. “If I’ve made it any easier for them, then mission accomplished.” During her time as chair, she’s also seen

a huge increase in membership numbers. “We’re seeing record highs for all our events, which really shows that people are positive right now about FCSI and what they’re doing. We’ve gone from begging people to be board members to having a huge slate of potential board members and not everyone can get on!” she says. In Europe, too, Wagner has seen

a growing enthusiasm for events ‒ for good reason. Teir quality has dramatically improved. He recalls a poorly organized conference in 2011 in Salzburg, when one architect spoke up, urging the Society to aim higher if it wanted to be seen as a leader in the industry. Tat moment

proved a turning point. Since then, the EAME chapter of FCSI has prioritized hosting events in high-quality venues, with inspiring content and forward-looking themes that showcase the best of what the industry has to offer. “I think the biggest achievement is that

everyone now comes to our conferences and masterclasses to learn something – to learn about the future, about their own business and to stay up to date with knowledge and education,” Wagner says. “Our job as FCSI is to educate our members, wherever they come from, so they can be professionals in their work, deliver good results and succeed for their bosses and clients. And now we’re also trying to give younger people a voice. I’m not the one delivering the future anymore. Tat’s for the next generation.”
