Tere’s a great story of support and socializing behind the biggest fundraising event to support the FCSI EF, outlines administrator Greg Jewell
H
ere is a little-known fact: the largest single donor to the FCSI Educational Foundation (FCSI
EF) throughout the years has been the Birchfield-Jacobs Golf Tournament and Crab Feast. Now in its 32nd year, the event has raised more than $495,000 for the Foundation since John Birchfield, Sr. hosted the first one in his back yard in 1992. Tirty-five people attended that
first crab feast, which didn’t even include a golf tournament. Now, the
tournament attracts more than 200 golfers and the crab feast has more than 300 participants. Robert Jacobs of Culinary Advisors
continues the event today and has rebranded it as the FCSI Educational Foundation Golf Scramble and Crab Feast. It continues to be a labor of love for his family and friends who produce the large event every year. Te purpose of the event is to
raise money for scholarships and fund industry participation for students who are interested in the field of foodservice consulting.
