That day, the visuals stopped being an accessory and became a permanent identity.
Rubén: The inner eye
Rubén is the visual chronicler of the project. He doesn’t watch from the outside, he lives it from within.
“Documenting Blackworks is a unique experience that I’m really proud of, sin- ce it was the first official party where I started as part of the team four years ago. It’s also where I’ve grown so much, both as a person and as an artist.”
His evolution as a photographer has run in parallel with the growth of the project.
“I started out with a very flat kind of photography, where I simply captured the artist. Then I began adding elements of the environment to the DJ portraits. Now I always try to reflect the DJ’s fe- elings while playing, combining that with the atmosphere of the venue. I’ve also made big progress in capturing the ravers, not just individual portraits but also the environment around them. I also feel I’ve gotten much better at catching production details and those small cor- ners that not everyone notices.”
What he does isn’t just visual archive: it’s the intimate narrative of a commu- nity that recognizes itself in every ges- ture, in every look frozen under Blac- kworks’ lights.
Guille: The global gaze
With prior experience in the interna- tional scene, Guille found a different kind of magnetism in Blackworks.
“What really struck me was the ener- gy you feel there. There’s something so authentic in the way the party is lived: no filters, no poses; everything is inten- se. Blackworks has a very strong iden- tity and a community that truly lives it, and as a photographer that drives me to look for something more. I felt I could connect with that and bring my own perspective from an honest place; plus, I love the music.”
