EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

In the vibrant world of electronic music, few names resonate as deeply as VCIII. With a journey that spans over two decades, Vicente has witnessed and contributed to the ebb and flow of the genre. From his early forays into trance to the nuanced melodic house sounds that characterize his music today, VCIII embodies the evolution of electronic music. As the co-founder of Surreal Festival, the head of Stardust agency, and a local partner

for Circoloco Ibiza in

Mexico, Vicente’s influence is both profound and far-reaching. Today, we delve into his world, his inspirations, and the road ahead.

Vicente, with two decades in the industry, how did your

passion for electronic music begin and how have you seen the genre evolve since you started?

“Since I was 6, I dove into music, exploring various genres like Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, Vicente Fernandez, and Pavarotti. I used my parents’ 5-disc Technics to enjoy this diverse range of sounds. My love for electronic music was born with trance in 1996, influenced by DJs like Sasha, John Digweed, and Paul Oakenfold. This was a time when the genre was undergoing a transformation, becoming more refined and vocal compared to its industrial roots. Over time, my musical journey took me from trance to house and dance club music. Despite a short period exploring EDM, I found my way to genres like Melo- dic House and Indie Dance. Now, I feel these sounds represent my musical identity. Even though it’s hard to focus on just one sound today, we have the freedom to produce any genre within electronic music.”

Speaking of your upcoming EP, what inspirations and sounds can we expect to hear, and how does this EP reflect your evolution as an artist?

“This upcoming EP marks the beginning of a new phase in my career. We are meticulously crafting its sound, which promises to be an immersive experience. The tracks will be rich in melodies and, in some cases, will feature vocals to convey stories through music. I strive to tell a story in every set I perform, and this will be reflected in the tracks we are preparing. Expect to find a mix of synthesizers, strings, and percussions, as I don’t limit myself to purely electronic. I’m determined to create a distinctive and authentic sound that represents my evolution as an artist.”

With your experience, how do you assess the impact of electronic music on today’s global culture, and what do you think the future holds for this genre?

“Electronic music has experienced exponential growth in its global reach, appealing to an increasingly broad audience. This is essential for its evolution. Today’s technology has allowed more talented individuals to create their own music, enriching the diversity of genres. Electronic music still has a long way to go, with ever-advanced digital tools democratizing music production. There’s a circuit of festivals and events that supports electronic culture. As a Latino, I feel that now is the right time for Mexico and other Latin American countries to leave their mark on this genre and build a strong community of DJs and producers.”

The Surreal Festival is known for its immersive experiences.

How do you conceptualize and curate these elements to create a unique experience for attendees?

“As a co-founder of the Surreal Festival, our aim is to provide attendees with an unforgettable experience. We work as a team to ensure that all aspects, from logistics to production, are impeccable. Also, given that our venue is unique, with a limited capacity

of 1,000 people, we can offer an intimate and

one-of-a-kind experience. My responsibility as a curator is to select a lineup that keeps the audience engaged and active at every moment of the festival, as I believe every moment of a festival should be special. We’ve also created, along with other artists participating in the festival, a kind of sound lab to produce original music within the festival itself. In the last edition, we created more than 8 tracks that will be released and distributed under

the

Stardust label in association with Stoyco. These experiences enrich the connection between the audience and the music.”

In your Stardust agency, you manage over 20 artists.

What do you believe is the key to balancing artist expectations with the demands of the current market?

“I don’t believe in balance, as a simple variation can alter anything or any project. Instead, I believe in finding the right rhythm for each artist. Each one has their own challenges and unique sound. In to- day’s digital age, music can reach any part of the world, giving artists the opportunity to be heard globally. The key is to find that rhythm and distinctive sound that connects with the audience. The art and

business of music go hand in hand in this process, and the key lies in finding authenticity and an emotional connection with the audience.”

As a local partner of Circoloco Ibiza in Mexico, what synergies and opportunities do you see between the music scenes in Ibiza and Mexico?

“The partnership with Circoloco Ibiza in Mexico represents an exciting opportunity to create synergies between two vibrant music scenes. Mexico is ready to receive and export musical talent, and I see a bright future. We are not only bringing recognized brands to Mexico, but we are also planning to take the experience of Surreal and VCIII as the festival’s Resident to different parts of the world. This will open new doors and further expand local and international music scenes.”

After your successful debut in Europe, closing the Croatia Beach Music Conference, what learnings and experiences are you taking away and how do you plan to integrate them into your future projects?

“My debut in Europe, closing the Croatia Beach Music Conference, was an incredible experience. As a DJ, I learned the importance of staying true to my own sound and how it can influence an audience that normally doesn’t listen to that genre. It was an exciting challenge and an opportunity to share my music with a diverse audience. As a speaker at the conference, I understood the importance of networking in the music industry. I’m excited about future opportunities and how these experiences will be reflected in my upcoming projects.

With your festivals and music reaching international audiences, how do you see Mexican and Latin influence shaping global electronic music?

“The Mexican and Latin influence on global electronic music is unique and powerful. Our music is passionate, melodic, and full of emotions. With a distinctive flavor and a rich musical heritage, we’re making a mark on the global scene. Long live Mexico and Latin America. We’re here to give more electronic music with our uniqueness and passion.”

You have ambitious plans to bring renowned brands to Mexico and expand your festivals to Europe. How do you visualize the impact of these moves on the local and international music scene?

“I see these moves as a platform that will revolutionize electronic music. We’re committed to boosting and empowering Latin talent and offering experiences full of fusions and freedom of expression. Music knows no boundaries, and with the expansion to Europe and collaboration with renowned brands, we’re paving the way for an exciting and diverse musical future both locally and internationally.”

In the process of creating your tracks, how do you integrate innovative elements while maintaining the essence of electronic music, and how do you decide when a track is ready to be released?

“The creative process is a team journey. Working with other humans who bring their magic is essential. Songs often have a life of their own and speak to you. I can’t explain when a track is ready; I just feel

it. The essence of electronic music is maintained

combining innovative elements with passion and authenticity. Each track tells a story, and deciding when it’s ready to be released is an intuitive process that involves listening to and feeling the music.”

VCIII, is not just a testament to musical evolution, but also a beacon for future artists looking to make their mark. His commitment to authenticity, his penchant for

pushing

boundaries, and his unwavering dedication to the craft stand out in an industry that is as tumultuous as it is exhilarating. As we’ve journeyed through Vicente’s world, one thing remains clear: the pulse of electronic music beats strong in the heart of Mexico and beyond, and with artists like VCIII leading the way, the future of the genre is in skilled and passionate hands.
