EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

In the luminous world of electronic music, Fleur stands as a beacon of genuine passion and authenticity, embodying the ethos of a “360 Degree VIsion.” This phrase seems to be the symphonic

echo throughout her journey in

the intricate tapestry of beats and rhythms. Fleur’s musical odyssey started at a tender age of around 11 or 12, when every Sunday turned into a rendezvous with new melodies. A young curator of sound, she would download fresh tunes and share them with her

connection with music from a young age. Influenced by

her love for parents who were

regulars at raves, Fleur was nurtured in a home where music was a constant companion, sowing the seeds of her

music.

At 16, the pulsating beats of 90s house music captivated her soul as she started attending raves. The characteristic organ sound of that era, blended with the influences of artists like Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, and Todd Terry, shaped her sound, creating a sonorous bridge between her and the 80s and 90s hip-hop she cherishes. The diversity in her musical palette is evident as she seamlessly blends sub-genres within house and electronic music, drawing inspiration from reggae and liquid drum and bass. The concoction of different genres in her compositions reflects her deep understanding and respect for music, enabling her to create a unique sonic experience. Her compositions usually commence with the creation of drum rhythms, followed by bass, synthesizers, and finally, vocals, with a strong emphasis on perfecting the drum rhythms. Fleur’s favorites such as “I Shouldn’t Have Done It” by Slick Rick and EP “Coconut” by Todd Terry give a glimpse into her eclectic taste and the diverse influences that shape her musical creations. This eclectic taste is complemented by her commitment to integrating classics into her sets, a gesture of reverence to the tunes that brought house music to the masses. She believes that the surprise of a classic at a club can bring exhilaration to the audience, allowing people to engage and recognize the track.

Fleur’s journey is marked by milestones of resilience, creativity, and an unyielding pursuit of her passion. However, she doesn’t isolate a singular experience or anecdote as the pinnacle of her career, reflecting her grounded personality and appreciation for every step of her journey. She shines a light on lesser-known artists like Angel Morales and Carlos Benedictus, emphasizing the richness of the 80s and 90s house music scene. The enduring appeal of house music, according to Fleur, is its deep-rooted connection with human essence. She draws parallels between modern concerts and tribal gatherings around the fire, emphasizing the role of DJs as facilitators of profound connections and experiences through music. Her approach to remixing classics is respectful and creative, balancing reverence

for the original with her own innovative elements. Current projects see her engrossed in creating a remix for one of her favorite artists, due to be released next year, and discussions with major

record labels for the release of one of

her favorite tracks, where she lends her voice. She is also in the initial stages of launching her own record label next year, aimed at continuing her connection with people through her music. Fleur envisions her future steeped in musical connections, personal and professional growth, and inspiring more women in the electronic music industry. She wants to empower them to pursue their dreams in the music field, emphasizing that success is not gender-specific.

The changing landscapes of electronic music demand open-mindedness and adaptability, according to Fleur. The digital evolution in the past decade has integrated social media as a cardinal component in a DJ’s career. However, Fleur underscores the importance of authenticity and originality in the face of changing trends, stressing that artists should lead with their hearts and maintain their Fleur

disconnecting to achieve a deeper and more genuine connection with herself and her audience. She emphasizes self-understanding and portrays herself authentically on social media, ensuring her fans see her true self without any pretense. She also reflects on the physical experience of clubbing, emphasizing that it should be more about the music and connection with it rather than focusing on the DJ. Her

appreciation for

passion of the people in these places, with Fabric being her favorite club due to its no-phone culture. Fleur’s British heritage and experiences have also influenced her musical style and approach, with genres like Speed youth influencing her

reminisces about the emotional impact of music from her youth and aims to recreate the same emotional resonance through her music.

Fleur Shore’s disciplined approach to life is

synonymous with her success. The artistic maven reveals, “I stay disciplined at home and whilst I’m touring, I stick to what I say I’m going to do and I don’t stop until I get it.” This resolution is her secret recipe to living a harmonious life, striking a perfect chord between her passion for music and the art of living. Fleur’s approach to her work is regimented, spending quality time in her studio, her “baby,” as she fondly refers to it. This rigorous schedule is the bedrock of her creative exploration. “Usually, I try to get in the studio 3-4 times a week,” she explains. This allows her to stay connected to her musical roots, constantly exploring new sonic realms and expanding her musical horizons even while touring. Fleur’s devotion to her craft remains unwavering, irrespective of her
