“So this is how I got into it. There is a person though that truly changed my life forever as an artist, my biggest mentor: Carl Cox. He just confirmed that my vision for DJing was right. He showed me that there is no limit for music and taught me that if you have the gift to play different kinds of sets in different situations and locations, to be versatile, you just have to do it. He honestly gave me the confiance and power which pushed me forward my musical vision and career.
“Finally, the one that really opened my musical vision and brought me onto another
dimension was Marco Carola: listening to him playing during Music On’s early years in Ibiza at Amnesia’s Terrace, it was an experience on a level that I have never witnessed before. My modern groovy vision definitely comes from him.”
The Netherlands has played a significant role in your career. Could you tell us about your history in the Dutch electronic music scene and how it has impacted your music?
“The first time I heard DJ Tiesto was on a cassette. I was a teenager and that’s my real first introduction to Dutch electronic music.”
“While the first time I played in the NL, in Amsterdam specifically, at the end of 2007, it was at Flex Bar. I still vividly remember that night, I had a fantastic time and I felt from that moment Holland was going to be like home for me artistically. It was then just a year later, at the end of 2008, that I played at Awakenings for the first time. It was Awakenings New Year’s and I played b2b with Markantonio. Now that I think about it I actually believe I’m one of the oldest residents at Awakenings - and of the closest collaborators of course. They really opened the doors of their family and their scene for me and we have such memorable moments in our shared history.”
“I then used to play all around Holland since the early days of my international career, and I do love every club and festival, the people. Holland has been and is really a big part of my career, I feel a lot of love and support from everyone, I’m forever grateful.”
How does the Dutch scene continue to inspire you, and do you have any favorite clubs or festivals in the Netherlands?
“The Dutch scene continues to inspire not only me, but the whole electronic music scene. We are talking about a strong scene with a big culture. The fact only that the crowd is always ready and eager to listen to many different DJs and music styles, makes me happy to just be there. For example I’ve had feedback from people, read comments online, and I know there are people who came to listen to me at a Tech House festival, and then came to listen to me in a proper Techno festival like Awakenings, and they remarked they enjoyed both types of sets. They really understand and are used to many different musical genres, which makes you realize how cultured The Netherlands is when it comes to music. I see Dutch people really love electronic music and do their
tastes, this is very inspiring to me.” research to develop their personal
