THE REMIX GAME: HONORING OR REINVENTING?
OGUZ’s remix work has been nothing short of im- pressive. His remixes for artists like Yellow Claw, Tony Junior (aka Claessens), and Soul Train have garnered attention from fans and critics alike. But what is his approach to reinterpreting someo- ne else’s music?
“When it comes to remixes, I try to find a balance between paying respect to the original and adding my own twist. Sometimes, I keep the vibe of the original, but other times, I completely ‘simulate’ it and make it something new. It all depends on how the track speaks to me, but I always want to bring my unique energy to it, whether it’s honoring the original or totally reimagining it. My main focus is to create a remix track that has my fingerprint, to make it sound like something I did with adding my typical simulating sound design but at the same time keeping the original soul of the track.”
For OGUZ, remixes aren’t just about playing it safe—they are about injecting his distinct energy into existing works, creating something fresh and authentic, yet still paying homage to the original. Whether his approach is subtle or radically trans- formative, one thing is clear: OGUZ’s remixes are undeniably his own.
