When you get to ‘a certain age’ there are some things more importantthan powerand prestige.
. And though I enjoy driving sports cars (who wouldn’t) I don’t enjoy the driving posi tion of most of them which in variably gives meabadback. So when I got into the Meri-
va, Vauxhall’s small MPV, my first thought was how easy it was to get in and out of. The hip point is much higher than usual so there’s no dropping down into bucket seats, nor
squeezing behind steering wheels or trying to get into too-tight door openings. The rear doors are rear-
hinged and open 20 per cent wider than normal, great for those with reduced mobility or parents lifting children in and out. . Rear seat passengers are
further cosseted with Vaux- hall’s unique FlexSpace rear seating system which allows
•a variety of different seating combinations. You’d expect it to be a pop
ular choice for families but it seenis plenty have been snapped up by fleet buyers. Meriva dates back to 2003

The brakes are impressively keen and I was caught out a few times - 1 spent the first few miles of mv first drive aoolo-
gising to my passenger for al most putting her through the windscreen. The SE on test started out
at £20,000 and comes with plenty of kit. As well as that already mentioned there’s a panoramic, electronically op erated sunroof, aux-in sock et and USB connector, cruise control, air conditioning, front side and curtain airbags and steeringwheel-mounted controls. A further £4,000 of extras had been added; navi gation system, leather pack, alloys and a few other bits and Dieces.
