Clitheroe has come underthe national media spotlight twice this past week... for all the wrong reasons.

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes was questioned by police after analleged altercation at a Clitheroe wine bar. And then Ribblesdale

High School Technology Col lege had to recall all 240 of its leavers’yearbooks after it was discovered that a pupil had in decently exposed himself on one of the photos. David Moyes (51) was hav

ing a drink with a friend at The Emporium; in Moor Lane, on Wednesday evening of last week when he was allegedly involved in a scuffle with an other man. The story was broken ex

clusively on The Clitheroe Advertiser and Times website and within minutes of appear ing went viral, sparking a glo- balmediafrenzyandbeingthe most read story on the BBC website withing 90 minutes. T he ta b lo id s ’ a t ten

tion soon turned to alleged 23-year-old victim Joshua Gil- librand, who claimed he had been assaulted by Mr Moyes. Police confirmed they had

launched an investigation into theincident, butstressedthat no arrests had been made. . A statement issued by

Lancashire Constabulary read: “Police are investigat ing a report of an assault at The Emporium wine bar in Clitheroe. Officers attend- ed the bar at about 10 pm on Wednesday, May 21st, and it was reported that a 23-year- old local man had been as saulted by a 51-year-old man. He did not require hospital treatment. Inquiries are on

going and we are speaking to a number of people to try to establish the circumstances. “There are a number of

differing accounts which we need to work through to try to establish exactly what has happened. No-one has been arrested at this stage.” Staff at Ribblesdale were

forced to recall 240 leavers’ yearbooks after the 16-year- old boy managed to play the “practicaljoke”whileapicture was being taken for the annual publication. The picture was circulated on social media. Headteacher Mr Stephen

Cox said: “We recalled our school leavers’ yearbooks when we realised that a pupil had made an unwise decision to play a practical joke in one of the group shots. “The pupil involved realis

es his prank was ill-conceived and deeply regrets it. The is- suehasbeen dealt with appro priately and is now closed.”
