raising their family in ... a plastic traffic cone. ■ The cone, at a secret location in Lancashire, was residence to the couple and their brood until they fledged ear lier this month. - - Dinner was ingeniously delivered via
a conveniently-sized hole in the top of the cone, which acted as a makeshift
front door. About five chicks were found in the cone, all of them healthy and thriving.
Lancashire Wildlife Trust communcia- tions officer Alan Wright said: "It just
comes to making a home. "This cone kept them safe from predators like cats and magpies and from too much human disturbance. "Who needs a bird box when you have a handy traffic cone?" Pictures by ALAN WRIGHT
