[ Captain Kyle O’Connor part nered Joe Marshall m a 160- run opening wicket stand before the former fell to the combination of Ian Chaplin and Sam MacLachlan for 87. Marshall went on to bat

alongside Elliott Artingstoll (37), pro Brandon Scullard and Conor Lowes as he fired his first senior century in a knock of 112 that included 12 fours and three sixes. The hosts rounded the in

nings off on 334-8 with only Padiham betting that tally on two occasions, firstly in 2007 versus Ribblesdale Wander ers (355-8) and then in 2010

againstGreatHarwood (381-5). In reply, Brinscall were 158

runs short as Scullard claimed 3-69 while Jon Harvey added 2-27.

“We’ve been told it was the

third highest total,” beamed O’Connor. “It’s always good to be pushing records. There wasn’t one person that put a foot wrong with the bat. The pressure was off so the lower order went in and just had a bit of a hit.

“We were 160 for the first

wicket. Everything just went perfectlyforthe batsmen. My self and Joe seem to compli ment each other. We’ve grown up through Read CC togeth er so we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.” O’Connor added: “It’s his

first senior ton which is great for himk, especially with him being a homegrown player. Breaking that three figure barrier for the first time will do him a world of good.”

Clitheroeskipper Paul Gaskell praised dynamic duoTom

Lord and professional Janaka

Guneratne as the pair helped stretch the club’s 100 per cent starttotheterm.

The prolific amateur batsman combined with the Sri Lankan all-rounder to put on 82 for the second wicket against Brooks- bottom after 14-year-old deb utant Charlie Dewhurst was taken.out directly by Tim Stephens. Lord fired eight fours and a

six in a knock of 51 before be ing ousted by the pairing of Ste

ven Filkins andAshley Gowers, while the paid man continued alongside Jack Dewhurst (26) to hit 11 boundaries before being caughtbyBenRichardsonfrom David Brown’s delivery on 53. “It’sanothergoodwinforus,”

said Gaskell. “The pro scored some runs as well which he needed. We’ve seen his quality so he’ll feel better within him self after that. It’s a weight off his shoulders. “Since Tom Lord has gone up

the order he’s done really well. He’s usually a middle order batsman but he’s doing a great job opening. The partnership

between himself and the pro is dangerous when they get going.” However, this wasn’t just a

two-manshow. Guneratne’sexit at 128-3 was followed by confi dent knocks from vice-skipper Matthew Coulter (24), Farooq Butt (39 not out) and Stephen Booth (15) in the lower middle order as the visitors culminated the innings on 237-8. “It was the tail end that se

cured the win for us against Great Harwood on the opening day of the season,” Gaskell said. “That’s our strength as a unit re ally - we can bat right through. We’ve got plenty of depth.”

Lord and Guneratne then

came to the fore again in the re verse, with the former taking

3-33 in an 11.1 over spell while the pro added an impressive six-wicket haul at the expense of 31 runs from 16 overs to seal a 119-run triumph. The Ribblesdale Cricket

League champions now host Padiham at Chatburn Road on Saturday before entertaining Ribblesdale Wanderers in the derby on Sunday. “We’ve got Padiham on Sat

urday and then it’s derby day on Sunday which we’re really look ing forward to,” Gaskell said.

Dog to end difficult year in cup final

Dog Inn will contest the Harry Dewhurst Memorial League BCupfinalwhentheytake on Globe Bullough at King George’s on Sunday.

The Whalley side have en dured a frustrating campaign,

with their efforts to build on last season’s cup final appear ance at Accrington Stanley undermined by absences and no-shows. As such, manager Simon

Kerins feels that a win on Sun day would be just reward for

those who have shown com mitment and enthusiasm:- “Winning the B Cup would not make this a great season, but it would certainly give us some thing to take into the summer. “I have never endured such a difficult season, especially

with regard to people letting us down at the last minute. “I certainly don’t want an-

with Chris Walton before being dismissed Ibw, but Andrew Jaggers scored at almost a run a ball, while Walton fell with the score on 147, becoming Mohamed Shabaz’s third victim on 49. Earby skipper Richard

Craddock helped Jaggers add 75 in the next 11 overs, Jaggers eventually falling

in the final over for a hard hitting 65. Craddock ended with 35 not out and Sales bury needed 225 to win. . Their reply was four

overs old when Craddock trapped James Watson (1). @ Aneeq Hassan scored a

swift 10 before Danny Kegg had him caught in the deep by Crotty. Professional Su- santha Pradeep seemed happy to take singles and the required rate began to V climb. Jason Rawson was run Out after a smart bit of fielding by Craddock for30, and Peter Blackman sup ported the pro well for a • partnership of 30, until he was bowled by Lee Parkin- * son for 15, who then had Pra deep caught by his skipper for35. Crotty andParkinson bowled well in tandem and • chipped away at the Sales bury tail, bowling them out for 147-
